The right’s “cancel culture” panic was always a convenient grift. But let’s be real: plenty of elites on the left also acted like speech was more threatened by annoying undergrads than by powerful elites. And truth be told, Obama’s not off the hook here either.

This is already happening. But the truth is, Black people never had allies. We have people that will sometimes strategically work with us to get what they want and then tell us to "Fuck off" once they get what they want.

It’s funny that the NY Post reports this as if it’s a dig on Jimmy Kimmel — when it’s actually a rallying cry for his fans.

What happened to Jimmy Kimmel is not about one comedian who said something he should not have said. The Trump administration and its enforcers want to control your speech, your behavior, even your public expressions of mourning. You are not allowed to criticize the president’s associates. You do not even retain the right to remain silent; you must make public expressions of emotions demanded by the administration and its allies or incur its disfavor, which can threaten your livelihood. This is the road to totalitarianism, and it does not end with one man losing his television show.

DHS Terminating Temporary Protected Status for Afghanistan WASHINGTON – Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem today announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status for Afghanistan. The TPS designation for the country expires on May 20, 2025, and the termination will be effective on July 12, 2025. At least 60 days before a TPS designation expires, the Secretary, after consultation with appropriate U.S. government agencies, is required to review the conditions in a country designated for TPS to determine whether the conditions supporting the designation continue to be met, and if so, how long to extend the designation. “This administration is returning TPS to its original temporary intent,” said Secretary Kristi Noem. “We’ve reviewed the conditions in Afghanistan with our interagency partners, and they do not meet the requirements for a TPS designation. Afghanistan has had an improved security situation, and its stabilizing economy no longer prevent them from returning to their home country. Additionally, the termination furthers the national interest as DHS records indicate that there are recipients who have been under investigation for fraud and threatening our public safety and national security.
