I ran into this hard with my first full-time job. I still like spending time with folks from before that happened, I just have so little energy now that it's hard to keep up and I had to widen my social group. Lower-energy circles are important too.

Besides, Bluesky and Mastodon both are actively improving in different areas, things will get better. You can get a head start on figuring it all out ahead of whatever next screw-up Twitter will do (honestly not sure what is left to screw up but I wouldn't be surprised)

Agreed. Ideally you don't want your light source casting hard shadows directly around you. More lights that are less bright is often better than a few really bright lights.

(I've wound up bringing a bunch of flashlights when traveling so I can have nice soft bounce light anywhere indoor.)
