One purple fox friend had that idea a few months ago with a new small IRC server, and another furry critter set up a new Discourse forum a few weeks ago.

I've never left IRC, which likely means I'm gonna be searching for yet another [something]-to-IRC bridge in the near future.

If a friend is happy to use it, I think you've succeeded where it matters, even if you see where you could do better next time.

There are always folks who are better at it, but they probably don't know your friends and/or didn't plan on preparing an avatar for said friends.

I guess my hesitation with blocking is Bluesky makes blocks public and easy to browse. It feels like I'm revealing more personal info by showing what I do and don't consider advertising/scammy.

I occasionally get accounts following that are clearly have no interest in what I post and are just promoting stuff on their own profile, which technically isn't spamming me, but I don't like keeping that follow around.

Right. I *think* Google's concern was more about revealing where phones (not tags) are in rural areas given the default of using aggregation:

But Apple already set the bar for privacy a bit lower here, Google's default is (was?) just weakening their own network.

Of all the privacy missteps from Google, it's ironic that the place where folks have been mostly fine with Apple's "everyone has this on by default", Google erred on the side of more privacy with Find Hub :/
