There actually are a lot of species named that way. Rattus rattus is just more common and fun to say.

I recently moved out of the desert to Tacoma. The grocery store three blocks from my house doesn't sell any loose produce. I wanted two or three shallots. Instead I had to spend $2.89 for this bag of more shallots I can possibly use. Asian grocery near a port is amazing.

When my kid was 2(?), he found my glasses, broke them, and hid them under the couch. That kid "helped" me look for my glasses all over the house, until the living room. I was astonished at the level of deceit at that age. (He is now a college freshman. This remains one of his largest lies, afaik)
