"How far do you think an all pro FCS team makes it in the FBS?"

C'mon. Would easily be annual FBS title contenders.

This year the FCS (ignoring FBS transfers) had 8 drafted, 47 UDFA signees

#1 OSU had 14 drafted (record) and 3 UDFA

#2 ND had 6 drafted and 16 UDFA

That said, the funniest timeline is of course Clemson being 10-0 heading into November 11th, losing to Furman, and then going on to win the FBS title. Would make them potentially still 16-0 in "major" CFB, but 16-1 in D1 ball.

Clemson can be the first team in CFB to ever reach 17-0 though!

(Assuming they go undefeated and get the 5 spot as the ACC auto-bid ala FSU in '23. And assuming no one like Lehigh manages to go undefeated but left out of the top 8, only to go on to win the FCS, since Nashville happens before Miami)

Never mind Yale went 16-0 in 1894. At a time when Yale was absolutely a "major" CFB team.*

*Unless teams like Michigan, Minnesota, Pitt, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Army all want to give up their claimed titles pre-US entrance into WWI.

Dabo Swinney Predicts Clemson Will Have CFB's 1st 16-0 Team After Playoff Expansion Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney believes that his team will put together an undefeated season with an expanded College Football Playoff format.

The word "major" doing a TON of work here.

Obviously Clemson wasn't the first D1 to go 15-0 (that'd be Georgia Southern in 1989), nor would they be the first D1 to go 16-0 (NDSU in 2019).

Plus if FCS games don't count as "major" CFB, best Clemson can do is 15-0.

You know, the one positive of the need to deflate and repair the Griz’s brand new indoor practice facility is that the doubletree across the river once again will have a view of the mountain instead of just a grey bubble.

Highly unlikely that Montana State will have to similarly deflate their new one set to open later this month

Montana’s new indoor practice facility (opened October 2024) is being deflated to allow for repairs to prevent it from leaking.

Ivy has never said or acted like they were above the playoffs? They’ve literally never contended in postseason football since the conference’s founding in 1954.

Plus a pretty silly thing to hold against a team this year when they’re [checks notes] going to be playing in the playoffs.

Remember how the other month the SoCon commissioner Michael Cross was on @SamHerderFCS's podcast saying (paraphrasing here), "we’re keeping a spot open for any teams potentially transitioning down from the FBS"?

Story lines start to bake in, low info voters (of which there are a bunch) will keep them artificially low even if they should be a top 10. And then argument will be "number of games".

At least one team conspicuously absent (Harvard, #26). Reason many voters did so?

(b) lazy slot-shifters who won't rank pre-season knowing they don't play until week 4
(c) poll legacy of under-ranking Ivies
(d) truly think Richmond, Stony Brook, and SFA are better

Starting our ‘25 podcast list. And while we’ve added youtube “podcasts” in past, as youtube, tiktok, etc. explode it’s hard to feel confident we’re very close to definitively knowing what’s out there.

Plus, non-podcast content is great. But unlistenable on a commute.

Worth noting that @bigskyconf.bsky.social coming stated that UTU or SUU will play only 8 as part of their entry agreement. Something we’d know if we weren’t lazy and watched like 4 minutes of video about exactly that.

Is this suggesting UC Davis (or someone else) isn’t long for the Big Sky? Or else a 14th team coming shortly (Sac State groveling maybe?)

Sure, the Bison would go MWC or MAC football in a heartbeat if it meant they stay Summit (with UND) in other sports.

But even in football, NDSU fans know there’s special hate for UND.

Gotta love that the strongest conference in the subdivision also doesn’t care about itself much (as you’re saying) and mainly exists out of necessity 😂

Sounds like a them problem then. They could always see if the Big Sky wants them, seeing as no FBS conference besides the C-USA (but why downgrade?) seems that interested.

12 game FCS season means there’s absolutely no reason why a league w/ 10 or fewer team needs to have schools not playing each member.
