Not a real doctor; real worm. I've done radio for kids for a weirdly long time. Not your lawyer, but maybe your amusement park law prof. SpareTheRock.com. Wrote a book: RecreationAndRisk.com (Carolina Academic Press). He/him; my views only here. St. Paul.

05.03.2026 14:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So I am told! I would be so embarrassed to be on his website

05.03.2026 14:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I had reposted m boulette's post about their getting the Stonewall Award--and they, unlike me, very much deserve getting it! But Simon Golden, Ph.D.'s AI tool is apparently too stupid to recognize that, but I should definitely trust it to write a book. Anyway, congrats to m:
05.03.2026 14:15 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0After three months away, Simon Golden, Ph.D., is back! This time he says he was impressed that I won the ABAβs Stonewall Award (I very much definitely did not win the ABAβs Stonewall Award) and that he should help me write a book (I have done this without his help):
05.03.2026 13:58 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Itβs a bastard
05.03.2026 13:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh, and you should hear from the man himself the year prior: youtu.be/_421iX2-P-c?...
05.03.2026 13:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0He was a pretty easy guy to be a good friend to.

Anyway, hereβs the thing I wrote about the trip to be with him and that day. I eventually will fix the borked images on the site, really.
sparetherock.com/wordpress/ra...
Looking back for something I wrote about that final day, I came across this, which I had forgotten writing, which gives some more context to the process leading up to it:
sparetherock.com/wordpress/ra...
And while I think it was harder for his family in the short term, it was the better path for all in the long term.
Looking back at his final posts, he included one with a quote from the St. Vincent Millay poem and this comment:
βOn the other hand, resignation must come, eventually.β
βIs a unique experience, making that choice. But I am OK. It feels right.β
Iβve written a lot about being with him on that last day and I wonβt go back over it again today. I will say, however, that I hope I can be as clear-eyed as he was in making the choice if Iβm ever in the situation to do so.
05.03.2026 13:24 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Eric: βThe alternative [is] to sleep more and more as things progress. It seems I could shorten that and be aware when I pass.β Me: βAnd is being aware of it a goal? I take it yes, and i think I can understand that. Are there other positives or negatives of going the quicker/more aware route? (More pain other discomfort, etc.) Eric: βSince I want to stay connected to everyone I want to stay aware rather than fade away, although fading away may be more peaceful. Harder for my family probably.β
He wasβunsurprisingly (he was a psychiatrist at the VA)βintentional about the process. One of the cruelest things about ALS is that his brainβhis remarkable brainβwas wholly there.
05.03.2026 13:22 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Message from Eric, 3/3/2015: Thanks Bill. I do feel I'm getting toward the end. I'm so tired all the time and I sleep a ton. My only desire is to stay connected until the time comes. I'm cutting back on visits because they exhaust me. But short visits work, as does FB. I'm not sharing widely but I'm thinking of working with hospice on stopping the vent, a matter of weeks. All I need from you is to stay connected
As I do this time of year, Iβm thinking about my friend Eric, who made the decision to go off of his respirator 11 years ago next week. I always go back and read the messages we exchanged the week prior, when I was making my plans to be with him and his family at the end.
05.03.2026 13:17 β π 29 π 0 π¬ 2 π 1WHEN: Monday, March 9, 10:00 am Where: Saint Paul Dethloon The blight on Midway that was the former CVS on Snelling and University is going to be demolished on Monday. Come celebrate! Bring a chair. Bring treats to share. Bring a musical instrument. Bring and share with friends. Bring your senior prom dress. Bring your toddler. Most of all, bring joy and your love for Saint Paul! If you are able, consider making a donation to Keystone Community Services, a legacy organization providing assistance to those in need for nearly a hundred years. I'm not sure yet how to do this safely and securely, but I'll get it figured out by Monday. NOTE: Start time is based on hearsay, and will be updated when I can find specific information.
Invite your friends! I have a pretty small #SaintPaul #St.Paul #StPaul reach here, so please share. Let's make this a demolition to remember.
04.03.2026 04:09 β π 109 π 39 π¬ 9 π 9I was going to say itβs been forever since I saw anything live but I saw Cymbeline at the Wanamaker Playhouse this time last year. It was great.
05.03.2026 04:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I just read the synopsis and have a couple of flashes of visual memories from the production, which is something, given how long itβs been
05.03.2026 04:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think I also saw The Glass Menagerie and Harvey there. Itβs possible that the quasi-date was to the former.
05.03.2026 04:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The Wild Duck was sort of a first date for me (with anyone) in retrospect; I remember really liking it enough that I bought it to read too, but I have not seen or read it since that winter
05.03.2026 04:20 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Finally, it was time for the play to begin. Everyone filed into the auditorium and settled into their seats. The play began and everyone tried their best to keep up with the story. Then it happened. Richard III killed his first victim. A horrible screeching sound came from the or- chestra and a spotlight focused on a pillar with blood running down it. When the screeching started, I looked around for a lunatic with the chainsaw. I thought maybe some weirdo was going to mass murder us!" admitted Kyle Holm. "The blood fountain was definitely the high point of the play," said Mark Young.
Like these Brainerd high school students, I, too, remember the blood fountain

04.03.2026 21:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think this is right! I am very glad it exists and maybe itβs better in its imperfect status?
04.03.2026 21:49 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think itβs good to keep it on the down low, thereβs a quota or something
