Fast Five

Best one yet, honestly. Despite weird continuity and eye-rolling stereotypes, this one’s a riot from start to finish - especially the finish. That scene with the vault is so fucking peak dude so many people needlessly die it’s fantastic

Worst one so far, easy. Got really fun by the end when cars started flying every which way and it stopped taking itself so seriously, but the lead up to that was more dull than I was expecting. And a lot stupider (negative)

Also Gal Godot can fuck off

The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift

This kinda sucks but is also relentlessly entertaining and nice to look at. Mostly giving this a thumbs up for the use of Speed by Atari Teenage Riot which is an unequivocal banger

Vampire Hunters

Another Vampire Survivors-style FPS. I really want a good take on the idea but I dropped this one fast since enemies do contact damage and I’m sorry that’s the LEAST fun thing you could put in a first person game to me

But it IS a decent arena shooter. Guns are punchy, sound effects are pretty satisfying, I enjoyed the map design and I’m a big fan of the sawed-off shotgun. But there are also only 7 characters, 6 maps and 4 challenge maps and that’s kinda it

Decent FPS, mediocre roguelike. Grab it on sale imo

Plus, characters have their own quirks but still feel pretty much all the same. Unique abilities are either some kinda push or dash and that’s it. Some characters can carry more weapons but that’s useless when you only need 2 at most. Enemy variety is also pretty poor

In reality it’s more of a decent arena/horde shooter with meat-and-potatoes roguelike elements. You get new passives, level up weapons etc but there’s no real synergy. The best upgrades are always the ones that increase HP regen, might and defense while everything else is kind of disposable

This is a boomer shooter where you are looking at dozens of enemies at any given time and you collect the mountains of XP they drop to get new weapons, spells and upgrades. Sounds like Vampire Survivors, right?

Bloodshed

Kinda torn. I liked it enough to get all achievements, but I think its Vampire Survivors influences feel underdeveloped and kinda tacked on

Despite what I’d heard about the series, 2 Fast 2 Furious is already pretty silly, throwing ridiculous action setpieces and discount Bond villains at the viewer. I enjoy this very much however, so I’m really curious to see where the series goes from here since apparently everyone hates it lmao

Pretty fun though! Not a *good* movie by any means especially if you think about it for too long but it’s paced well, it’s constantly entertaining, and it’s weird seeing Vin Diesel actually act. He’s like unironically pretty good in this

The Fast & the Furious

They drop the F-slur less than ten minutes in and one of the main plot beats involves participating in “Race Wars.” What on earth was happening in 2001

Coupled with a great modding community that supplies both some great proper folk/banger racing tracks and some silly ones (somehow, the Minecraft ones I downloaded ended up as my favourites), and this is one of the best racing games of the past 10 years imo. Easy tail wag with a better career mode.

My opinion of the game jumped quite a bit when I turned up damage from Normal to Realistic. Not only did I have to be careful now, but wrecked opponents appeared more frequently, becoming obstacles on the track. Surviving any one race was not easy, even when the whole grid was DNF

as is the level of destruction. Not just seeing your legally distinct El Camino get crushed into half its size, but all the fences and tyre walls that explode over the track when struck, too. The track becomes a sea of debris by the end of the race and it is truly magnificent

And the presentation is pretty plain and sterile. It doesn’t scream demolition derby to me

But I’ll take some undercooked UI and menus if it means the racing slaps and boy howdy does it slap. The sense of weight in these old derelict muscle cars is sublime,

The career mode is a good length but races are only ever 3, 6 or 12 laps for some dumb reason (aside from one specific race which is 2 laps?) and it makes some later events very tedious, especially when they have you do one track then the reverse variant minutes later

Most of my complaints are of stuff surrounding the core gameplay. As mentioned, the AI can kinda suck - which is great when you wanna punish them for spinning out by slamming into them, not so much when they break out from the pack and are never seen again

The career mode gets monotonous and the AI can be kinda bullshit, but derby and folk racing is so much fucking fun dude. I can’t wait for the 1.0 release of Wreckfest 2 after this

The supernatural element is a catalyst for characters to go through character growth and for the show to explore some of its themes - friendship, love, trauma and healing - but now they’re just tools to fight back against the big wriggly meat monster and his Jak 3 final boss-ass giant spider thing.

But by season 5 it’s the total opposite. Will’s coming out scene is dumb and cringe but also it happens at that specific moment in service of their impending fight against Vecna. Will being gay doesn’t feel as natural as it could since it’s there because “if I’m not afraid, Vecna will weaken”
