Absolutely not! I learned from a young age that imperialists destabilise regions for monetary gain. The 2002 Venezuela coup was driven by disputes over the control of oil, and backed by the US. Iraq invaded Kuwait cos they wanted oil. I’m anti imperialism and anti war.

Thank you. It’s rubbish but obviously could have been a lot worse! It’s just so infuriating that the geopolitical tensions I learned about the hard way as a child have never really calmed. Just gets stoked every 10 years.

For the record, I always absolutely hated that he worked in oil. From an ethical standpoint primarily, but also because, you know, if you get taken hostage cos of your job, maybe get a new job instead of letting it happen AGAIN?

My father worked in oil.

He’s been taken hostage twice.

Once in Kuwait (so was I, but I was sent home, he was kept for months).

Once in Venezuela.

It’s no coincidence that those places sound familiar now.

Oh my god I’m furious. Turns out the picture above is AI, and has been spread everywhere as THE picture of the moment. This is the actual moment on TV. Why do people feel the need to use AI for every tiny thing? Ugh

Of course it’s been happening for decades! But not all decades have had the massive backslide into fascism that’s happening in our countries now, with rampant queer phobia. So having this moment of light feels extra special in this context.
