Actually pretty ironic now, some of the radio towers I work at were ones he worked on in the 70s

Grandad on one side did a lot of stuff at AT&T/Bell telephone, ranging from long distance telephone to splicing the first fiber optic cables in Minnesota.

The other one was a iron ore miner, then a machinist, along with being a mechanic in the national guard.

That sounds similar to the part of northern Minnesota I spent most of my life in up until recently, if you actually live in the area, good fucking luck trying to find a place that hasn't been snatched up for a rental or is being eyed up for one, absolute worst people in the summer as well

That and why people still buy and use something seemingly as low tech as a walkie talkie in (current year). and the short of it is, a properly designed and maintained two way radio system will be much more reliable than say cell phones and can continue to work without Internet, utility power etc

I remember explaining to someone why the utility company I used to work on radio equipment for still had a bunch of stuff on leased line 2400 baud modems or really old Alcatel microwave units for electrical transmission scada systems, and it's literally there's just nothing to be gained by upgrading

There is a company called signal hound that makes rf receivers that get used for signing stuff I believe

I do like the idea of a comms specialist getting called a signal hound... I may have to use that

Minneapolis should press its momentum and demand not only withdrawal but start talking about the need for immediate reparations, loudly, with the total certainty that only winners have. "You have wronged us terribly and must pay recompense" and let them argue the second part.

I will believe that ICE enforcement has changed on the ground when I stop getting daily notices that armed, masked goons are circling my kids’ schools and trying to sow fear in the parent patrols.

It's such a small and tightly knit community, losses like this will be felt nearly everywhere in the community. It's terrible. Hell I've even had dinner with friends and family at el potro.

I used to live in the brainerd lakes Crosby/Ironton area up until very recently, knew people would show up in solidarity
