Five sandpipers are stacked on top of each other in an extremely unlikely position.
Peep Tree. Here's a fun little interpretation of a group of species we informally refer to as "peeps". These are some of the smaller sandpipers in the genus Calidris, top to bottom: Least, Semipalmated, Western, White-rumped, and Baird's, all depicted as fresh-plumaged juveniles.

A red-faced Purple Finch with berry bits on its bill perches on a branch intertwined with bittersweet vines.
Here's a recent watercolor of a Purple Finch. Windsor & Newton watercolors on Arches hot press.

That's great! Indigo x Varied would be wild. I suppose there's an extremely small area of breeding overlap in Texas?

Thank you! I'll definitely give that a go. Is there a way to add it after the fact?

Oh! Thats very interesting thanks. The two photos from Illinois combined with the description are pretty convincing. Wild that there's no photographic evidence of this hybrid in the Macauley library. Maybe an eventual addition to the poster...

Male buntings of the genus Passerina of North America. This 11x17in poster also includes all known hybrids within the genus and has hand calligraphed species names by my father Richard Lipton.

Bohemian and Cedar Waxwings in a snow flurry. Sometimes in winter the large northern Bohemian will travel south and join a flock of Cedars. Their waxy feather tips are a bright pop of color against soft creamy gradients.

Winter Wren in all of its evergreen dell, moss swaddled glory. If you're out west feel free to imagine it as a Pacific Wren, I don't judge. This is one of my more popular small prints and stickers.

Thanks! It really is! Unfortunately so many treat it like an invasive.

This is Creeper Party, a piece from a couple years ago featuring Virginia Creeper and a trio of fall visitors drawn by the berries. Top to bottom: Scarlet Tanager, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and Swainson's Thrush.

This was a fun commission I completed in early 2024 of two very secretive species of the saltmarshes of the San Francisco Bay of California: Ridgway's Rail and Black Rail.

Woodpeckers of the Eastern US & Canada, an 18x24in print that I finished in early 2024. I illustrated a mix of male and female birds to show some diversity therefore it leans more toward an art piece than an identification guide. However, the species are all numbered and named.

Just joined Bluesky so I'll be posting some older stuff as I populate this new account. Here's a digital illustration (drawn on an iPad) of a pair of Purple Finches in flight.
I offer this piece as a 6x6in print in my Etsy shop.
