And my winner for the month: Broad-leaved penstemon (Penstemon ovatus). I am amazed at how vibrant and long-lasting these blooms are. #bloomscrolling #pnwnativeplants

Gratified to confirm that after months of mowing around these suspicious leaves, it is indeed a volunteer California poppy (Eschscholzia californica)! I hope the poppies I actually sowed get this nice (probably not!) #pnwnativeplants

A piece of cardboard on a grass lawn moved slightly to reveal a bird's nest with three small eggs, white with brown speckles

I put this cardboard down to collect slugs. Seems like a popular place to make a home! (Dark-eyed junco?) #birds #pnw

I'm still in my first 12 months so hopefully I'll be spending less time doing site prep! Looking forward to a few firsts to learn from: first time sowing (non-veg) from seed, first time setting up and using drip irrigation, and hopefully first time sitting with a cup of tea admiring the garden!
