Where does the climate movement go from here? In the face of Trump's climate assault, Bill McKibben proposes a sun-soaked path forward.

β€œCalifornia, the fourth largest economy on planet Earth, is this summer using 40 percent less natural gas than it did two years ago to generate electricity.

If you wanna know why the fossil fuel industry is freaking out and sponsoring every bad politician on Earth, that's why.”

β€œThey appear to have discarded the whole paper as not fitting their narrative, and instead picked a single figure that was in the supplementary materials to cast doubt on models, when the whole paper actually confirmed how well they have performed in the years after they were published,” he tells WIRED. (Hausfather’s research was also cited in the EPA’s justification for rolling back the endangerment findingβ€”which, he said in a post on X, draws a β€œcompletely backwards” conclusion from his work.)

one of the people cited multiple times in the report was @hausfath.bsky.social β€”Β who says that the DOE authors pulled a graph from the supplementary materials of one of his studies to make a completely different claim than what his work found:

Scientists Say New Government Climate Report Twists Their Work A new Department of Energy report β€œfundamentally misrepresents” climate research and leaves out key context, multiple scientists cited in the report tell WIRED.

NEW: i spoke to nine (!) scientists across several disciplines whose work was cited in the new Department of Energy report that downplays the severity of climate change. all of them say their work was misrepresented, cherry picked, and/or lacked context β€”

When I get depressed about the magnitude of the climate crisis I visit the Cal ISO website to take a peek at what we were told in no uncertain terms by Very Important People was impossible just a decade ago.

He helped Microsoft build AI to help the climate. Then Microsoft sold it to Big Oil. A former Microsoft project manager reveals how the tech giant is using AI to help Big Oil drillβ€”and how he and his partner are now pushing for change.

Will Alpine co-wrote Microsoft's manifesto on how AI will be a powerful force for good for climate change

In a new interview, Alpine disavows the manifesto, saying he believes Microsoft used his work to distract from the much larger climate harms the company enables through contracts with Big Oil

Fossil fuel billionaires are bankrolling the anti-trans movement An investigation shared exclusively with Atmos and HEATED finds that 80% of anti-trans organizations receive fossil fuel funding.

As @yessfun.com has reported, the fossil fuel industry directly funds anti-trans panic because it distracts the public from "the very real and ongoing risks that climate change creates.”

Microsoft claims that selling AI to Big Oil will ultimately help Big Oil transition to clean energy.

I asked Microsoft to provide me evidence that that's true, since all available evidence says the AI is solely being used to drill more.

β€œMicrosoft has nothing to share,” they responded.

Environment and climate often don’t get sufficient mainstream media coverage (with limited exceptions) and are pushed aside on social media platforms. Most people don’t support environmental rollbacks, but most people also don’t know about them. In this moment that somehow needs to change.

E.P.A. Says It Will Eliminate Its Scientific Research Arm

I know so many dedicated and brilliant scientists who work (and I guess now worked) at EPA. The loss of expertise and ability to make science-informed decisions will have lasting damage for our health. Academics and advocates will have to try to fill the gap.
