Not-seasonally-adjusted Health Employment: Lacked the huge January drop we usually see, as well as the rebound in February.

Yes, there's congestion somewhere. And it doesn't appear to be first in first out. I may also have to rewrite.

The rest of the household survey is pretty boring.

This seems like fake news so to speak. Birth-day added +85k in Jan but only +4k in Feb, explaining part of this.

As a bls-flat-files pleb, I'm still waiting on graphs. Picking through the industry table, big losses:

- Couriers/messengers (-16.6k)
- Services to buildings (-10.5k)
- Healthcare, almost all physicians (-37.4k)
- Food services (-29.7k)
- Federal (-15.1k)
- Resi specialty trade contractors (-9.5k)

Unemployment, employment-population ratios, labor force participation little changed.

Northern California’s first condor egg in 100 years reported in redwood tree

Northern California’s first condor egg in 100 years reported in redwood tree

Who COULDN’T use some good news? β€˜ Scientists with the Yurok Tribe say that two of dozens of condors released to the wild in Humboldt County since 2022, to reestablish the endangered birds, have paired up, built a nest in a redwood tree and appear to be tending to an egg.”

This website is so cool it may induce another wave of data ferret nostalgia, but good

Many workers have missed shifts without jobs being destroyed making it challenging to measure labor impacts with conventional sources.

We use real-time daily data from Homebase to measure impacts. Thanks to UChicago and Homebase for making the data available.

This resonates with my experience pretty well. A lot of tedious data cleaning organizing tasks (most recent example: assembling EIA data spread out among a bunch of zipped files) gets done in less than 60 seconds.

Real insane part of this clip is Hassett saying in the beginning that NY Fed researchers β€œshould be disciplined” for…writing an economics paper that comes to a conclusion the president dislikes? A conclusion that matches the vast majority of economic evidence on tariffs? Nuts

the great thing is, genai does not need to lead to 50%+ gdp growth to be a Big Deal

16.02.2026 02:37 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

i remember a few years ago a very smart person i know said, seriously, that genai would lead to 50% annual gdp growth... and all i could think was, "have you ever looked at the nipa tables"

16.02.2026 02:35 β€” πŸ‘ 7    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

imo in terms of the extreme bull growth case, the "problem" is still someone, somewhere still needs to change a bedpan

Wage and compensation growth has fallen steadily over the past couple years but private nonunion EIC growth has been stable for the last year and a half. The decline is all in union and government (which is mostly an product of lagged dynamics and convegence)
