Here's my response to Doug Ford's budget update – the Fall Economic Statement.

Leo Gerard was a giant of the labour movement. From Sudbury to the world, he fought for fairness, dignity, and justice. My condolences to Susan, his family, and union siblings everywhere. His legacy will inspire generations.

Windsor has one of the highest unemployment rates in Canada, and Ontarians are struggling with the soaring cost of living. Yet, Doug Ford’s 2025 budget fails to deliver. No real support for families. No real investment in jobs, healthcare, or education. We deserve better. #ONpoli

It’s been 400 days since Bill 173 Intimate Partner Epidemic Act 2024 was debated. 400 days without a declaration, meaningful actions, or supports for survivors. 400 days fighting for justice. Another alarming report from Ontario’s Financial Accountability Office came out this week. Doug Ford is underfunding key social programs—ODSP, OW, education, and health care. As people continue to struggle, we must lift them out of legislated poverty. That starts with doubling ODSP and OW rates NOW.

I had the privilege of attending and speaking at the Elbows Up Rally downtown. People from across Windsor-Essex gathered to stand in solidarity against the Trump administration’s dangerous tariffs and to stand up for workers impacted by the reckless decisions being made across the river.

Rose City Islamic Centre held an Eid Community Festival this weekend and it was a pleasure to join them. What an amazing family friendly event, lots of activities for the kids and some incredible performances. Thank you to the community for inviting me. Eid Mubarak!

Thrilled that it’s Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market season once again. So many fantastic local vendors and an incredible selection of goods on the opening day today. I picked up a few things and enjoyed chatting with vendors and shoppers.

As we welcome the new year, I hope you all have a year filled with hope, health, and prosperity. Let’s continue to work together to build a brighter future for all.

They need to declare intimate partner and gender-based violence an epidemic and take accountability for the reality faced by so many women and children in Ontario. 4/4

It is deeply concerning that the Windsor Police received 6400 calls in 2022-2023 for intimate partner violence alone. The Ford government must do better, lives are at risk. 3/4

The solution is simple; the government must build affordable and supportive housing along with adequately funding shelters. Ford has failed women and children in Ontario. 2/4

Housing is a human right. When women and children are fleeing intimate partner violence or gender-based violence and have nowhere safe to seek shelter and support - they are in even more danger. 🧵1/4

From today's Auditor General Report:

The opioid crisis has consistently escalated since 2016, with 7 people dying/day in 2023 from opioid-related deaths. Despite this, there was no data, planning, or public consultation provided to justify closing CTS sites.

This funding will help ensure that MCFF can continue to thrive and showcase world-class cinema and digital art in Windsor-Essex for years to come.
