so like what i'm currently working on came from this one detail in a short story i read that stuck with me, and while my novel has almost nothing to do with that inspiration, it's my attempt to find a way to evoke the same feeling. that gives me an "in" to feel invested in my work

one thing i do is think of a story concept or character dynamic in something i've read that really captivated me. and then i do some journaling in a notebook to think about what i liked and why it worked, and then i start thinking about how i could recreate the thing i liked in a new context.

but i think taking a break could be a good idea if you feel burned out, it doesn't have to be as permanent as quitting. also this is just a suggestion so feel free to ignore if it doesn't sound like it would work for you, but when i'm trying to generate ideas,

agree with a lot of what's been said! and i've had that feeling in the past of reading old work and thinking "wow i can't write like this anymore," but i kept writing just for myself for fun and eventually started writing stuff that was even better than my old "peak"

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

no matter what the circumstances, democrats are always saving their energy for a mythical future situation where they will do something good

i don't have any democratic senators so i wouldn't have had anyone to call anyway but i hate that i can spend a quiet sunday evening with friends and miss a pivotal moment in defending our rights. bad system

look I know being an engaged citizen IS the work of democracy but it is also the work of elected officials not to create situations where everyone has to be mobilized all the time to prevent them from allowing some kind of Dickensian horror on a Sunday night while you're in between loads of laundry

My friends who work in government have gone into debt to protect people's healthcare, they are being fucking betrayed by wealthy Senators who never stopped getting paid.

Blame *all* Democratic incumbents for this surrender. Not just the ones voting for it. The others could have voted to remove Schumer long ago and install a leader capable of formulating a strategy and holding his people together. They were content to stay with a proven loser.

Joyce Carol Oates
@Joyce... 17h O
So curious that such a wealthy man never posts anything that indicates that he enjoys or is even aware of what virtually everyone appreciatesโ€” scenes from nature, pet dog or cat, praise for a movie, music, a book (but doubt that he reads); pride in a friend's or relative's accomplishment; condolences for someone who has died; pleasure in sports, acclaim for a favorite team; references to history. In fact he seems totally uneducated, uncultured. The poorest persons on Twitter may have access to more beauty & meaning in life than the
"most wealthy person in the world."
