So very proud of @forjanes.bsky.social and his 1st @gfz.bsky.social paper

Exquisite data and images of a fabulous geochemical and mineralogical double pseudomorphic reaction

New in #GPLetters: Pseudomorphism, one of the most prominent features of mineral replacement phenomena, can survive several successive mineral transformations, as experimentally demonstrated for the 1st time by Forjanes et al ➡️ buff.ly/FbNFwXw

Probably some of the coolest objects we've ever scanned in our #microXRF @amgc-vub.bsky.social were these Indonesian #Kris daggers. Turns out some of them were likely forged with #meteorite metal! Read all about it in our manuscript in MAPS:

There is a weird misunderstanding going around that wealth doesn’t matter for happiness. People in richer countries tend to be more satisfied with their lives. Quite a few (albeit not all!) problems can be solved by throwing money at it. Source: buff.ly/v1tlV9H

A cut and polished slice of a baryte stalactite. It's a broadly circular cross section and there are concentric lines in varying shades of brown, so it resembles the cross section of a tree trunk. From Newhaven, Derbyshire, England, UK.

Baryte:
- A sulphate mineral
- Forms in many environments e.g. hydrothermal veins, evaporite deposits, volcanism
- Has a high specific gravity of 4.3-5 (quartz is only 2.65)
- Its name comes from the Greek word "βαρύς/barús" (heavy) #minerals

🧪 The peer review system is truly broken! 😵‍💫

An editor's perspective:
–Ever increasing number of manuscripts submitted for publication
–Authors want quick editorial decisions + fast peer review
–Reviewers are "too busy" to review
–Everyone wants to submit papers but no one wants to review

“Da igual quién gobierne, son todos iguales”

No, no da igual. Así es cómo ha evolucionado la renta mediana disponible del 10% más pobre de nuestra sociedad 👇🏼

2008–2017: -22%
2017–2022: +43%

Se puede gobernar para los privilegiados o se puede gobernar para la mayoría.

Secondary-electron (SE) images (A and B) and distributions of P (C) and Ca (D) in a cross-section of one A. beccarii specimen from the culture experiment. All intensity values are expressed in counts per second (cps) as shown in the color bars. Both P and Ca mappings show parts of the epoxy resin outside the foraminiferal calcite.

It's a bit involved, and not strightforwards, but if this hold, this new method could make a huge diffrence in how we trace nutriant avilability and limitation back into the geological record. 🧪⚒️
