This book, read repeatedly under the covers with a flashlight as a kid, made me a scientist of animal behavior. RIP Jane.

Very excited and proud to share my postdoctoral research with @neurrriot.bsky.social looking at the context-specific encoding of social behavior πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί in hormone-sensitive, large-scale brain networks in mice!

Love how this project came together with the amazing @endoeartha.bsky.social ! Have you wondered about the role that testosterone plays in the ability to re-pattern social behavior when you are at home in your "territory" vs away? We have answers for you...

Hormonal regulation of behavioral and emotional persistence: Novel insights from a systems-level approach to neuroendocrinology Gonadal sex steroid hormones regulate internal states, social drive, perception of external cues, and learning and memory. Fluctuating hormones influe…

Is it finally time for systems neuroscience to take hormones seriously? OMG YES! @meenakshiasokan.bsky.social and I share some of our thoughts about recent work in this review www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Some ppl are suggesting reviewers take a stand- if the diversity F31s can’t be reviewed this cycle then no F31s should be reviewed. I know none of us wants to slow things down after panels finally restarted, but this seems like the only fair approach to me. Wait till next cycle to consider everyone.

We track changes in this network across many days and show that experience and observation recruit overlapping subcortical networks (a whole β€œmirroring” network) and result in a similar β€œrelaxation” of aggression inhibitory control. Super cool findings! Major kudos to Jorge Iravedra Garcia!

Aggression experience and observation promote shared behavioral and neural changes The ability to observe the social behavior of others and use observed information to bias future action is a fundamental building block of social cognition. A foundational question is whether social o...

New year new work from the lab! We explore whether aggression experience and observation lead to similar changes in future aggression strategy. (They do!) We perform 2-color imaging across the whole social behavior network across time and track changes www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

We think of moods as hormonally or physiologically driven states that allow circuits to prioritize and deprioritize energetically costly activities (like social behaviors). Moods operate on the timescale of transcription.
