I'm going to be boring and pick maybe Path of Radiance lol. The new ones are fun with neat maps and mechanics though. I just like simple easy to get through stuff and PoR has a lot of that and great designs.

ESPECIALLY Horsetelle.

There's a certain Trails in the Sky 3rd character I can't spoil since a friend is going through that one right now. I'll pick Ludger in Xillia 2 which is funny because he's just the protag but they made him Dante.

It's one of those dungeons where you have to find keys or something and turn 5 statues in the proper direction. It was pretty awful. If it was just a maze I could deal with it lol

Squall for wanting to protect him. Surprisingly fragile mentally and his design is good. Also I want to give an honorable mention to when stories push how good natured the guy is. Shoutouts to Welkin since VC did a great job for a middle ground on the leads.

Lusamine's good! Most of my exp is her in the OG SuMo. I know they changed some stuff in US/UM but I plan on checking it out.

Imagine giving specific lessons or grading people to boost stats. Doesn't need to be too deep, but it would've been fun!

Oh right, I want to revisit this thought I had. One reason CS3 didn't click for me as much as CS1 is that 1 went all in on being a student. I thought it was fun having moments like seeing everyone's exam scores. CS3's idea is cool, but it felt like like the usual Trails thing.

This is what sort of bothered me. I think it's ok to have our protags have secrets when we're in their PoV. But when CS3 added new ones for things that happened off screen, I felt a little disconnect :(

The only trope I will never like is the show me your resolve trope in Trails. Neithardt and Elliot's dad...

If you're going to do it, don't make it where your only option is winning. Make it feel like I'm fighting a horror monster like Arianrhod and can lose lol

My favorite tropey writing that's harmless is CS1's start of stating people's full names and profession when they're like Ouroboros or Bracer lol

Yeah. I do like the metroidvania aspect to it in Origin. It's also why Ys 8 felt very fun to explore! The island was so good.

But I guess as far as the "lows" go, it's more like it's hard to be hit with surprises by Falcom? People make jokes that things people dislike are existent since FC. It's true but the series is 21 years old now so I want the formula and story beats changed up a bit. So that plus rushing games hurt.

Reverie and on felt back on track for me. I just think Falcom is too small and suffer like Pokemon where they have to release games constantly. Also for Calvard without spoiling, I really feel like they are doing ideas they planned long ago. Way back since 3rd and Zero. It makes me so excited.

Ooh. Just to be clear I don't think Trails got worse, it's mostly CS3-4 which I didn't vibe with as much as before. I feel like FC to CS2 had neat consistency in writing. CS3 felt like Naruto Shippuden where they got a bunch of new ambitious ideas so there was a bit of shift in the writing style.

Art style I hate... There was a game called Tales of Hearts on DS. Tales was not popular in the west so they thought about doing a CG edition sold separately in JP and they look horrendous. Horrible take on Inomata's beautiful art. It was so unpopular that we never even got Hearts DS in the west.

Art styles I love. Stylish games like Persona 5 with their menus. Character models that match the character designer's work like Atelier Sophie. Expressive anime style like Sky 1st. FF7 looking like their CG.

Only played 1 so BD1 lol. Truthfully, I'm mixed on Asano projects. My confession is a lot of ideas that are praised are just things from the golden days of Square. It was fine for a couple games but then it kept going to things like Triangle Strategy. I want something fresh and it could be Elliot.

Ys Oath in Felghana. I only say this because I didn't hundred percent complete Ys Origin so I don't want to count it yet. But Origin really is my ideal Ys game. Give me awesome dungeons and bosses as fast as possible. Oath gives me Adol though which is a huge plus.

Picking mandatory dungeon for this. I love Tales of Eternia but what a horrible dungeon.

I dread this part every time I play through it. For post game, it's probably something from Tales or Star Ocean. I love both series but those post game dungeons were not fun at all lol

I don't want to talk too badly about it since I have friends that adore it. I will say it's polarizing. There's a part that had the highest highs of Trails for me at least. I love the beginning and end. It's just that 60 of those other hours I could be enjoying something else.

As a big Crow fan, Jurai never... But also as a Crow fan, I'm glad the bailed on making a Jurai anime lol

These games! I can't say they're all perfect. Utawarerumono has slow pacing and may feel boring to some, Lufia 2 isn't available on modern consoles, Musashi has some rough PS1-isms, but I love these games and I wish more people tried them. Trials of Mana is accessible and has a remake too at least.

I've seen many people hate on the calendar system. I was wary of it for sure. Sure it was easy to do but I'd rather it be easy than a middle ground. Give me actual time management like Atelier Arland/P3 OG or make it easy and stress free like Metaphor.
