Today's conundrum : the difference between something being insidiously invidious and something being invidiously insidious. #tricky

Telegraph censured for fabricated story of banker’s struggle to pay school fees Watchdog upholds complaint it breached code with article about impact of VAT on a family that did not exist The Telegraph has been reprimanded by a press standards watchdog after it published an entirely fabricated story about a wealthy banker complaining of the impact of school fee increases. Ian Fraser, a freelance journalist and author, complained to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso) that the Telegraph had breached the editors’ code of practice in an article headlined: “We earn £345k, but soaring private school fees mean we can’t go on five holidays.” Continue reading...

I know in this new and happy age everyone is looking at their phones while they walk around, but yesterday I happened to see someone using two phones at the same time as they were walking round the shops. A glimpse of the future perhaps.

Reading a book on geography entitled, "Longitude and Lassitude". It's ok but not sure I have the energy to go far with it.

Today’s adventure in law has been about learning how in this new and happy age, we can still send faxes, albeit using email. I have been told, and have the email to prove it, that the answer to one of my questions was “fax-specific”.

One of the trickiest things to do I always think is to take a compliment well. Generally, the best thing to do is simply say “Thank you” in a sincerely appreciative way.

(Alongside thanking one’s team, supporters and everyone who voted for you, of course.)

My top tip is that if you don't win an election, the only proper thing to do is to congratulate the winner. Anything else is just sour grapes.

I am trying to imagine a law officer in front of the Justice Committee responding to questions about failure to investigate sex trafficking and child sexual abuse by saying “What about the FTSE? We should all talk about that” and I am delighted and relieved to say I simply cannot imagine it.
