This appears to be very similar setup to Cyclone Hudhud, which I personally experienced while doing fieldwork in Langtang Valley in 2014 (not 2015, as I may have said in the interview), and which resulted in the deaths of over 40 trekkers on the Annapurna Circuit.

It looks the remnants of a tropical cyclone that crossed into India on Oct 1/2 reorganized with a healthy dose of southerly moisture and slammed into the Himalayas following the end of the monsoon.
