We couldn’t access the site last year due to wildfires in the Columbia Trench, and I’m happy to report that most things kept on ticking happily for the extra year. Alpine meteorology, ground temperatures, and stream temperature data to work with!

Guidance on the acceptability of using generative AI in coursework

Our university has 'AI' guidance - not a formal policy - (www.unbc.ca/provost/guid...), but even calling it AI is misguided, IMHO. And it really doesn't get to the heart of it: learning is a process. Show me the process.

And if you can't be bothered to write it, I can't be bothered to read it.

Just caught Dr. Barry Cooper (longtime climate change denialist and Friends of Science contributor) on CBC's The Current talking about Alberta separation. Yep.

It honestly baffles me that resource extraction companies are allowed to offload cleanup costs to public dollars.

On the plus side, they've identified books that should actually be read. (Stephen King had a great quote about this.)

Seeing as how no one is actually proposing that, and even if they were it would only require about 0.05% of the total surface are of the planet to be covered in solar panels, I'll assume that you would prefer to be actively ignoring the many different solutions that are available.

This is a helpful counterpoint to the Suzuki fatalism. We can actually stop climate change, but are actively choosing not to.
