I asked a friend who lives now in the US what people think of their federal government.
"It depends on where they get their news."

Cork City Council has done great work, for example enabling families to cycle down to the Marina.
But then this happens - so no more safe cycling.
This is not tolerated on the carriageway. Why on the bike lane?

Only one EU leader has condemned the ๐บ๐ธ๐ฎ๐ฑ attack on Iran as a violation of international law: Spain.
Not participating in the initial attack is not the same as publicly opposing it.
Rutte claimed our leaders are welcoming it, and this has not been disavowed. And now Europe is about to be dragged in
Indeed.
But this is not correct I think: "NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte believes he is speaking for all Europeans when he says Europe supports the ๐บ๐ธ๐ฎ๐ฑ attack on Iran."
Extraordinary crowds as a mass funeral procession begins in Minab, Iran for the 165 school girls & teachers killed in the US/Israeli school strike on Saturday.
Many outcomes of this war are uncertain. But a renewed generation of hatred towards the West is now baked in.

The main title states: โDefending dignity and claiming rights: human rights defenders hold firm to universal values as others desert them.โ Below it, a boxed summary explains that the report presents the voices of human rights defenders from 82 countries, based on 300 submissions, examining challenges they face and offering recommendations to international actors.
Today at 14:30 CET, I will present my final report to the UNHRC, bringing forward the voices of HRDs at a time of growing attacks on human rights & the international system meant to protect them.

Von der Leyen is losing - not gaining - power:
By speaking where she has no mandate, sheโs alienating her own College, enraging member states, and betting EU credibility on Trumpโs war aims.
A Commission president who has lost the Council (!) doesnโt need to wait for 2029 to become irrelevant
He does have his supporters though. bsky.app/profile/vond...

DENMARK SAYS ITS WILLING TO FUND FRENCH EU+ DETERRENT POLICY
After Macrons speech yesterday Denmark is willing to assist in funding an EU+ nuclear deterrence policy. Others are expected to follow. Itโs quite extraordinary how quickly the realities of the situation are dawning on EU+ nations.
