I am familiar with the origin of the word! I don't like it! I have a *personal* revulsion to how it sounds and appears, and I have a *technical* objection about its utility. If other people use it, fine. *I* don't like it, *I* think its utility is more limited than more commonly used words.

I said I don't like the term and I don't think its less ambiguous or more impactful than collaborator, but people who use it don't need to justify themselves to me.

Stanley is probably right (and within his rights) to leave and the U of T has good reason to hire him. That doesn't mean people who see an already narrow door narrowing further have to clap for him.

I haven't seen anyone "dunking" on him (maybe there are) but what I have seen is people pointing out that it's already extremely difficult for Canadian academics to get positions and it's frustrating to think that as Cdn institutions start snapping up fleeing US academics, it will become even harder
