I am familiar with the origin of the word! I don't like it! I have a *personal* revulsion to how it sounds and appears, and I have a *technical* objection about its utility. If other people use it, fine. *I* don't like it, *I* think its utility is more limited than more commonly used words.

I said I don't like the term and I don't think its less ambiguous or more impactful than collaborator, but people who use it don't need to justify themselves to me.

If you're going to try to (rightfully) associate a pejorative term with a person, you're causing a lot more work for yourself to also have to make sure people know what the word is and that it's negative. Just use the words that have already put in the work to have negative connotations.

Absolutely despise the term "quisling." Traitor and collaborator are perfectly good words that are universally understood and don't sound vaguely like they could be misogynist slang for a woman perceived as cheap and trashy.

Imagine coming out at the end of the Fort MacMurray fire (or whatever horrible fire is next) and Trump comes and throws some paper towels at you and calls it a day.

At the very least it's useful that they're now being explicit that the plan has never been to turn Canada into the "cherished" 51st state, but a territory whose people are not granted the full rights of citizenship.

It's not a Canadian-owned company anymore and even if it were, we're not obliged to pretend bad things are good just because they're Canadian.

People always want to talk about how a single sour patch kid would kill a pilgrim but that's ancient history. I do believe that a single box of Kraft Dinner would kill King Charles right fucking now.
