THAT is the problem with "better than nothing". MTPE fan TL is worse than nothing. It's actively detrimental to the games supposedly being translated and the community at large.

It makes players associate the game with slop.

It forestalls good-faith translations.

It wastes everyone's time.

Remember the old 2000s fansub days, when groups would race to get subs out so that they'd be the first and get the most viewers even if it meant tons of preventable errors?

Or how some groups would pick a neglected series/genre, produce a slapdash, low-effort TL, then go "It's better than nothing"?

ROM site Myrient will die end of March, citing costs and tech undermining their chances for donations as reasons. Apart from missing legal support, funding is a big issue in the preservation space. Just like us, many efforts only barely survive thanks to passionate volunteers.
