Ours just froze

Throwing an introduction up! Artist, writer, K-5 public school Art Teacher in Kansas City, Mom of 7, 3 with disabilities (bereaved mom), TNBC cancer survivor, fighting really shitty auto immune disease(s) and chronic pain, LTBTQ Mama Bear, Deconstructed, maybe Agnostic, still spiritual, Enneagram 2

And here we are in an era where we can no longer point to a presidents as a positive leader!

Though I am an art teacher, I lead a remedial reading group. I chose, “Little Leaders Bold Women in Black History” by Vashti Harrison for my group. The girls are soaking it up and reading with pride!

I remind my students if they want to be leaders, they must ask

Do I want to be the kind of leader who models disrespect & unkindness, demonstrating pride, selfishness, and disparagement?

Or the kind of leader who models respect & responsibility, demonstrating kindness, empathy, and encouragement?

I’m a teacher and they couldn’t even step foot in my school.

All day, I pictured T and his evil cabinet posed in front of a crumbling Gotham City! It truly is a villainous line up.

I teach K-5 art.
Student this week, “Mrs Loux, what’s a v@gina?”

Me, “It’s a female body part that you don’t need to worry about.”

Him, “I thought it was a medicine?”

Me, “No” (unsaid… that’s Vi@gra)

Can’t make this stuff up!

I love this!

My son spends hours working on Mandalas and other adult-style coloring books by the way! It’s great therapy for him.

We were headed home after running errands & doing a ton of chores. The kids were excited for the rest of the day to be “free time.” Aiden, my son with Down syndrome, saw this gentleman raking all alone wanted to help. He helped for 15 mins, then gave the man a big hug.

The list goes on.

I am grieving and worried about:
My disabled children’s right to services and health care,
my ability to obtain affordable insurance with pre-existing conditions,
the cost of prescriptions that our family depends on for our wellbeing,
my daughter’s access to reproductive health care,

One of the many things I have learned as a bereaved mother is that GRIEF is just LOVE forced to take on a new shape. #greif #bereavedmother

I taught in the 1992-2006 and was self employed from 2006-2020. I came back right as the pandemic started. I’m not sure how long I’ll last between my health and the world being out to get us.

I have two of my own children with IEP’s and one with a 504. I am a fierce advocate for equality and inclusion.
