The Canal st. response looked amazing. Distributing Know Your Rights info very widely has also been important - as well as stores joining in locking ICE out when they try to enter.

I would definitely eat the hell out of that, but my partner can't eat wheat.

I like wearing it around my neck when I walk in my neighborhood. It shows others that people are paying attention to ICE, and helps allies find each other. But if some people don't feel safe displaying that, I get it.

For organizing in NY? I'd think ICE would move through the city quite differently there. I suspect whistles might work well in some parts of the city but be barely audible in others because of traffic and other sounds. Knowing your neighbors is valuable anywhere though.

I live about a block away from a church that has separate Sunday services in Spanish and Polish. This morning I met a group of 4 ICE monitors who were waiting outside the church. People helping can be everywhere, and often are.

What in the name of fucking "Marathon Man" Nazi dentist do we have here? It is not safe.

The Texas National Guard should absolutely be deployed to Chicago in February.

A big thing I'm starting to think about is: What will ICE do in the winter in Chicago, when it's cold and fewer people are out on the streets for them to kidnap? How much harder might they try to enter businesses, schools, libraries, and homes? We need to be planning for them to shift gears.

If ICE is in the area, and you feel safe enough to leave your home, you should particularly let landscapers, roofers, and others know immediately since these people are particularly targeted by ICE.

I'm against competition and ranking neighborhoods by coolness. We all win when zero neighborhoods are tear gassed while the police do what they usually do to help keep us safe: nothing.

One thing you can do as soon as you learn that ICE is in the area is go out on the street and tell others you see directly like people walking dogs. Not everyone knows what you just learned. Many don't. Talk to neighbors no matter what they look like and let them choose if they still want to be out.

TimeOut recently named Avondale the 5th coolest neighborhood in the world. That is ridiculous but anyway, now we are the 7th neighborhood to be tear gassed in Chicago.

It's really not my favorite thing to be dealing with right now, but people in my neighborhood are coming together in ways I've never seen before and that part feels really good. We met a lot of lovely neighbors today.

When they are in your neighborhood, you don't wait for state charges and courts. You rally your neighbors, alert everyone that doesn't already know, and chase them out.

Unfortunately in Chicago it is becoming normal. We need to face this head on.

Tear gas being deployed blocks from my home this morning.

This was around 9:00 - 10:00 AM so they have been out of the area for a while. They didn't hang around very long.

I'm seeing that someone is organizing an outdoor meeting a few blocks from us tomorrow so we'll attend that and meet more of our neighbors. So many more people know each other now, and so many more people now understand that the police are completely useless. These things are good.

Check eBay or Amazon if you must. Are you in Chicago? Check hardware stores too.

A LOT of people in my neighborhood hit the streets when they learned ICE was present. Tons of people outside, walking, on bikes, and in cars. This is the only thing that soothes my anger. We kept them on the run, but I learned they got a young volunteer I met so I'm very concerned about her.

Whistles also make us visible to each other, so if you feel safe openly wearing a brightly colored whistle with a bright lanyard (orange is great), it will help others patrolling find you so you can compare notes.
