Have these folks ever seen an actual cow being actually milked? I'm pretty sure they have not.

31.05.2025 16:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yet another reminder that most people vote their identity, their feelings, or their grievances, rather than voting based on a careful analysis of the policy wisdom and execution prowess of the candidates before them.
(... and this is true of most voters for both parties.)
It's a great article. Earned that top spot!
11.05.2025 13:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Apparently it has become popular to use mass automated blocking. Maybe you clicked "like" something that you felt was well-written or whatever, and someone who disagreed with its point of view mass-blocked everyone who liked it.
13.04.2025 01:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well, it does appear that the realm of legality is greatly expanded. Certain kinds of fraud are apparently de facto legal, as well as flavors of insider trading.
13.04.2025 01:53 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Do you think the right revaluing is? I've heard people talking about 20 to 25% down.
Of course the future is unwritten, and investors may assume that policy will pivot (thrash?) repeatedly.
New military jargon has just dropped: OOPSEC.

08.03.2025 14:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I tried Hyperspace from @siracusa.bsky.social ... I arrive very inclined to buy, based on hearing the story of it on ATP.
Problem is, it's hard to get motivated about taking ANY action for a mere 6.75GB.
(My first hard drive was 20 megabytes. It was huge at the time!)
To paraphrase the thing about markets remaining irrational, Trump can remain committed to bad ideas longer than the market can disbelieve him. That's not to say it will happen in this case - I also wouldn't be surprised if he changed direction next week.
03.02.2025 13:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Seems likely to happen eventually, but the people who were sure it would happen right away bizarrely underestimated how allied these (uh) gentleman are, at least for the moment.
03.02.2025 13:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Surprisingly muted response to extraordinary bad trade policy. Maybe the market doesn't believe it will stick.

07.12.2024 00:46 β π 13 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've been on the internet since the early 90s, and yes, those are the two main timeless topics.
06.12.2024 22:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sir, this is a fundamental function of the internet, going back to its earliest days. I don't think there's any way to turn it off.
06.12.2024 22:24 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It remains to me seen how BlueSky will deal with the problems that come as a large cross-session of people make it here. But it is off to an amazing start.
06.12.2024 22:23 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The big challenge in all this:
Lots of people have very strong opinions on how other people's online experience should be curated, not only their own.
I believe an emotionally and intellectually even-keeled response to Trump is the best strategy even though I am deeply worried about what he may do if the opportunity arises.

Pretty sure he wanted a cabinet post, but good point nonetheless.
06.12.2024 13:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A TNG scene. We're in the Enterprise conference room, where Picard is holding a meeting with Data, Troi, and Dr Crusher. Barclay is also there, for unknown reasons. Maybe he wandered into the meeting and just sat down, and everyone was too polite to mention it. That happened to me once. I was visiting an office location I didn't normally go to and I wasn't quite sure which conference room I was supposed to be in. I walked into one and sat down and it took me five minutes to realize I was in the wrong meeting. From the perspective of the people in that room, halfway through that meeting, a stranger walked in, sat next to the boss, took notes for five minutes, then walked out without saying a word.
At its heart, Star Trek is a utopian fantasy about a society so advanced that they are capable of holding productive meetings that last no longer than three minutes

04.12.2024 17:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Easy inline client versus server code... I was already used to that in @qwik.dev but now I need it in a small project that I really want to use React with because I have a React-based component set to fit in with. Maybe Tanstack is worth a look.
29.11.2024 21:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The domain thing is great - it leaves no doubt as to what account is someone's real account.
28.11.2024 19:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes - the difference between "what % of items will Amazon still be able to read?" and "what is the probability I will be able to get this data back?". The first is extremely incredibly high, the second is merely incredibly high.
28.11.2024 19:55 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Past the first 6-7 nines, I think this durability estimate is nonsense - because surely there is an error rate at which an AI (or human customer service agent) mistake causes someone to lose access to their account permanently, including all of the S3 data stored therein.
