I got burned so much volunteering for non-profits that I refuse now. They can pay £50, £100 and I'll do it, but there will be a contract in place and professional expectations on them not to waste my time.

A book that we - and our friends with kids (dads and mums) have properly LOL'd at: Are We Having Fun Yet? by Lucy Mangan. (Unlike other books in this trope, Mangan wrote one and put all the funny stuff in it, rather than a series of thin books)

My fav fantasy read of the year? Tress of the Emerald Sea: A Cosmere Novel (Secret Projects Book 1) by Brandon Sanderson. So sweet (and well written - there is a theme!)

Cosy murder mystery in England? The Lady Hardcastle series by T E Kinsey (starts w A Quiet Life in the Country). Even better written and amusing. The audiobooks (narrated by Elizabeth Knowelden) are even better

Fantasy and funny? Hannah Nicole Maehrer's series starting with "Assistant to the villain". The writing is good in all 3 books. Has queer characters. 1/n
