Birding!
Good effort, well done on relocating it! π
24.11.2025 19:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I couldn't catch up with it! π But it was heading in the right direction
24.11.2025 19:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Had a look at the Ouse Washes at Fortrey's Hall this lunchbreak and was pleased to see the juv Red-throated Diver, some 9km NE of Earith where I saw it Friday, and it was still going. Hopefully it can get back to the sea! Only about 45km to go! @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding
24.11.2025 18:41 β π 34 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0It seemed very chilled! Hope it's OK although was diving a lot later apparently, hopefully finding food. Not as good as a Dartford but great to see! π
21.11.2025 19:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks James! π
21.11.2025 18:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thank you π I expected one on a large expanse of water, not a river. Although I wasn't expecting one at all really!
21.11.2025 18:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thank you Louise! π
21.11.2025 17:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks Jon! π Was surprised but very pleased to see it!
21.11.2025 17:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I wondered if the plunge to sub-zero temperatures would bring anything good inland. I was thinking a wader but I'll take a Diver!! Red-throated Diver on River Delph by Earith Ouse Washes this morning. Self-found county tick! ππ @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding
21.11.2025 15:28 β π 74 π 1 π¬ 5 π 0Very nice! Excellent find ππ
20.11.2025 18:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Whoop whoop π
13.11.2025 22:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'd like to think they can recognise and react to the dead swans - gives them a chance to avoid! Quite a long trip back north but no doubt drawn to somewhere familiar and safer. Will be interesting to see your tracking results from the season
07.11.2025 19:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Please keep an eye open for dead & dying Whooper Swans (and other waterbirds), see thread below on how to report for possible sampling & please also report to @birdtrack.bsky.social so we can start to build a comprehensive picture of the spread ππ»
06.11.2025 20:13 β π 11 π 12 π¬ 2 π 1Could be a life saving move if it's avoided bird flu. Do you think there is any possibility it detected and responded to dead and dying swans, in a specific threat avoidance action? Or was it triggered by the more general issues you mention in your article?
07.11.2025 13:19 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've been in touch with the Site Manager and reported to Defra. Warden is checking tomorrow. Thanks for highlighting this. Not good at all βΉοΈ
31.10.2025 22:08 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks Andy. I'm in touch with the Site Manager and have reported to Defra. Warden is checking in the morning
31.10.2025 22:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Do they have pale eyelids? Johnny Hook and I observed similar on the cell 10 female, eye showing momentarily pale on occasions. I thought it was perhaps blinking but couldn't find anything in the literature about it
27.10.2025 18:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes, that was reported on a local WhatsApp in response to my sighting. Hopefully it's an accurate count so looks like the Manea could be over 100 π
26.10.2025 17:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think there have been higher counts historically from what Hugh was saying. The Manea flock maybe over 100 as they don't all feed together
26.10.2025 16:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I completely agree. Really lifts the spirits π Hope all is good with you Laurinda
26.10.2025 16:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 096 Cranes at RSPB Ouse Washes today π My highest ever total! Getting close to the big π― on the reserve! 11 juvs. Initially feeding between Stockdales and Cadbury hides, they later flew west towards Manea. Video of some of the flock departing @rspb.bsky.social @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding

20.10.2025 19:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You need to come to Cambs π
18.10.2025 18:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes, in my 5 years of birding it's usually just one Pf here or there but then last winter large flocks settled around March and Manea. So perhaps they will again and are pushing more into Cambs. Delighted to see and hear them going over π
17.10.2025 09:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The squeal of 42 Pink-footed Geese over my house in Sutton caught my attention this morning as I worked from home. Nice to be on their flight path! π @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding
16.10.2025 18:06 β π 44 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0The noisy neighbours are back! π And I'm pleased they are. It's like welcoming home returning friends. At Ouse Washes this morning. Skein of Pink-footed Geese over my house tonight too! House tick! π€© @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social #ukbirding
15.10.2025 18:48 β π 61 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0I saw a group on the Ouse Washes on Sunday and most were asleep which is unusual. Probably exhausted! They all looked much perkier by Wednesday and had found a nearby field to feed in
11.10.2025 16:12 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sorry @Laziobirder.bsky.social, until I saw this I hadn't appreciated that the Coal Tit you found yesterday on Barra is evidently quite rare locally! Nice π
09.10.2025 18:33 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Enjoy the Scillies both, and good luck π
06.10.2025 18:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Happy birthday! That's a good birthday bird!
