The desired end state of someone's political project is part of the politics someone is practicing. Kirk's end state envisions a world where guns continue to proliferate and children's deaths are and acceptable cost. It normalizes enemy lists in education, leading inexorably to threats of violence.

As someone who finds Ezra Klein's podcast a very helpful resource in contextualizing a lot of today's politics, I find his opinion piece today to be disturbing. It seeks to disconnect Kirk's political views from the world those views would birth. I don't know how you do that.
