The lower shelf is great and very secure. Here it is with an 11in iPad.

The tablet holder is trash. I didn’t even bother to install it.

I recently replaced a worn out treadmill with the Bowflex T9 and am happy with it, we paid $1500 at DSG. We picked this one as we were not interested in any of the video-centric models from Peloton or Nordictrack. If you are only walking you could look at a model with a narrower deck.

I very highly recommend logging into your account and going to Settings > Data & Privacy > Personalized Shopping.
