We fall in love with #cleanenergy every time.

We shouldn't have to choose between good jobs and a clean environment. We really do deserve it all.

Energy access is at the heart of the U.S. #aluminum industry crisis. Without clean, affordable power, we’re not just losing smelters β€” we’re losing good union jobs like Dalton’s.

Good-paying union jobs are at risk and middle-class families can’t keep up with rising power prices if they’re out of work.

Chart: Aluminum has a big CO2 problem. Here’s how to clean it up To hit global climate goals, carbon emissions from aluminum production have to drop 92 percent by 2050. Step one? Building a ton of clean energy.

From soda cans to EV batteries, #aluminum is everywhere in daily life. The difference is whether those products support good American jobs and climate progress or reinforce old, polluting supply chains. And the bulk of those emissions come from #electricity. MoreπŸ‘‡πŸ½

Trump’s tariffs spur US aluminum industry to boost recycling Producers were already looking to recycled aluminum to help lower carbon emissions. Now, under Trump’s trade policy, demand for scrap is even higher.

A billion dollars’ worth of aluminum cans end up in U.S. landfills every year.

With producers looking to curb their emissions and tariffs raising the price of virgin materials, that trash has never been more valuable.

Plans are in the works to build America's first two new aluminum plants in half a century:

"For the economics to pencil out [their power] will need to be produced from carbon-free sources, like wind or solar, for the aluminum they produce to be more competitive on the global market..." ⚑ πŸ”Œ

Aluminum’s carbon footprint is all about #electricity. And so is its downfall.

πŸ‘€ Look closely at the sharp decline of the U.S. aluminum industry since 1980.

Smelter closures hurt tens of thousands of workers & hollowed out regional economies. Revitalizing the industry is about #climate AND people.

β€œBut without proper governmental support to provide the energy needed to domestically produce raw aluminum, all we’re going to do is saddle American buyers with the increased cost of buying it from somewhere else.”

And that poses a big problem for aluminum manufacturers. Tech giants like Microsoft have stated that they are willing to pay over twice as much for the same amount of electricity.

Only if manufacturers can secure the energy it takes to make raw aluminum.

According to the Aluminum Association, one smelter requires about the same amount of electricity as the city of Boston or Nashville.

It might sound like a lot, but you know what else needs that much energy? A data center.
