Sorry about this, I’m just sitting here with all the time in the world and have no idea where to go.

I'd tell a therapist but I can't afford one

A lot of the people I grew up around were massive pieces of shit. I know that doesn’t make me the same by default, but I just feel like my life has been impaired by being around that all the time. I don’t have a lot of positive experiences to draw from to make a better version of myself.

Like, I get everyone has social anxiety to some degree. But I feel like I’m just so far behind I’ll never get to the point where it's manageable. What attempts I’ve made to socialize I self sanitize so much that I feel like I’m coming off boring as shit.

I keep telling myself I’ll make some friends once I’m good enough at art. Once I have a good paying job. Once I can stand on my own and actually feel proud of who I am. But the more I work towards those goals, the more alienated I feel.

This keeps me from putting myself out there. I just don’t feel proud of anything I make, even if a lot of people seem to like it. It’s not as good as I need it to be, just like I’m not as good as I need to be. I know that's not healthy, but I can’t help it. I just feel out of place all the time.

This is probably 90-95% of all the time I spend trying to network and reach out. I think it honestly stems from me not having a healthy relationship with myself. I've never really been proud of who I am as a person. As a creative, I don’t feel like I have anything interesting to offer.

I find it impossible to use social media in the way I perceive as ‘normal’. Not just here on bsky either. Even simple text messages I find impossible at times. I’ll write and rewrite a message a dozen times. I still hate it even after all the work. I delete it all and never send it.

Some of it I can manage. I’m an insane perfectionist who tosses most of what I create into the bin. When that's a drawing or a story at least I can say I grew some and honed some skills. But for every other aspect of my life it's just a massive liability.

If you are anxious and sad about the state of the world, that's fine, and there are plenty of strategies for dealing with that.
