One reason why elite schools (Columbia, Brown, Cornell) caving to Trump’s illegal impoundment and extortion is so galling — a betrayal, really — is that they would have won had they fought. By giving up, they guaranteed every other school will have to fight harder.

Cornell's agreement weakens the collective ability of ALL American universities to resist undue govt interference in research, teaching, hiring, and admissions.

The agreement was made without discussions with faculty, students, or staff.

Now there's a town hall *after* the deed is done.

As part of the AAU, Cornell signed a statement in May saying that Trump's attacks "ultimately detract from the necessary fight against antisemitism while threatening the global preeminence of America’s research universities and colleges."

The words don't quite connect with actions here.

Remember how J.D. Vance said that conservatives should “aggressively attack the universities in this country"?

By capitulating with a financial settlement, Cornell is showing the Trump admin that these attacks work.

Disappointed in Cornell's announcement today.

Despite finding no violations of the law, Cornell will make a direct $30 million direct payment "as a condition for ending pending claims."
