To stay warm I’ve been burning, well, everything.
This bowl of peanuts is to feed our ever-hungry teenage boys. The shells go straight into the fireplace. I hover over the tiny burning pile and -like Gollum & the ring- proclaim the orange flames and accompanying ounce of warmth to be my precious.

Hey there,

I β€œthink” I used to buy it from Cambridge Isotope labs but I don’t see it in their inventory anymore.

That price you’re being quoted is bananas but I haven’t bought labeled chitin since pre pandemic days (the salad days, as they say). :-)

I am not on social media much these days (too many fires at work), but showing up and seeing Dr. Parcak’s take-no-prisoners posts reminds me that the stars are still burning, the Earth is still spinning, and Sarah is still dropping mics on BlueSky. πŸ˜‚

Thanks for the kind words. They still do produce a variety of programmes including documentaries and podcasts.

If all goes as planned I should be back on again in February telling more tales from the deep sea but with a twist. πŸ˜‰

I had the pleasure of talking with Carolyn Beeler from @theworld.org about our "Sea Monsters" exhibit at @harvardmuseums.bsky.social

Thanks again, Carolyn and Hannah, for having me on your show! Stay monstrous y'all.

In the 18th century Francisco Goya produced a series of etchings called Los Caprichos, which satirized the political, social, and religious abuses of his era. One of my faves is this: "El sueΓ±o de la razΓ³n produce monstruos" (The sleep of reason produces monsters).

Nowhere close to coming to fruition. I think one of the biggest structural impediment is that most nations will not allow their funds to be used to support for national investigators. In other words, I cannot use US research dollars to support colleagues in Tonga or in Ghana. Vice versa is also true

Hi there

If I could magically bring one thing to fruition, it would be creating a genuinely collaborative international research fleet that could generate the much needed baseline data that would allow all nations to make informed decisions about their policies. Without that, we are flying blind.

I absolutely CHERISH those moments, Katy!

Listen up, younguns, the telephone was designed with a ringer that you can set to high or low. This was, wait for it, by design so you could decide if you wanted to hear an incoming call or not. I’m not sure of this β€œviolation β€œ of which you speak. πŸ˜‚
