A photo I took of a dense patch of snowdrops against a dark fence, with rays of sunlight shining down on them and sunlight illuminating their petals from behind.

Jane Austen wrote about thankfulness in a prayer she composed: "Give us a thankful sense of the Blessings in which we live, of the many comforts of our lot; that we may not deserve to lose them by Discontent or Indifference." I'm so grateful for the community on this site. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Not with intent.

This unfinished portrait by D G Rossetti emphasises the beauty & queenliness of Jane's looks.

It was intended to illustrate Dante's 'La Donna della Finestra'.

We wrote this to help you imagine how quickly a city can change under Trumpโ€ฆ

Charlotte was once a place of slow, easy mornings, coffee cups clinking in cozy cafรฉs, jazz drifting through open doors on Tryon Street, families stepping onto the light rail with strollers and soccer bags.

It is early in the morning, and there are few people about in this 1919 work by William Nicholson of the Cenotaph in London. It is the original white-painted wood and plaster structure designed by Edward Lutyens, it stands out in stark relief against the Foreign Office.

as a side note, a lot of food banks in the U.K.- I dunno about the USA- wonโ€™t accept or give out formula (despite the govt publishing explicit guidance that legally they can do so).

Every time I buy someone formula, I also give them info on where, locally, they can get ongoing support.

Swifts have declined 70% since 1994.

They fly from Africa to breed here, only to find we've blocked their nest sites.

A ยฃ35 swift brick nest box was proposed for all new buildings.

The construction industry lobbied Labour to block it.

Billie Eilish Calls on Billionaires to Support People in Need: 'No Hate, But Give Your Money Away' Billie Eilish donates $11.5 million from 'Hit Me Hard and Soft' tour to charity and calls on billionaires to support people in need during hard times.

I don't see a lot of people talking about this, so I want to highlight something GOOD

Billie Eilish stood in a room full of billionaires and said "you're billionaires... Why?"

She donated 11.5 MILLION DOLLARS to food equity and climate orgs, which Stephen Colbert announced to said billionaires.

Philip Larkinโ€™s this be the verse mangled into Ozymandias, the text reads

They Oz you up, your mandyias.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They give you vast and trunkless legs
A sunken shattered visage too.
But they were Ozzed up in their turn
By Mandyias upon the sand
Who half the time had wrinkled lips And half in sneering cold command.
Oz hands on mandyias to man.
Like mighty works atop a shelf Look on them early as you can
Ye mighty and despair yourself
