Book blanket 2025 #19: Lights Out by Navessa Allen @navessaallen.bsky.social

The fact that I read and enjoyed this might tell you more than you ever wanted to know about me … sorry.

Anyway I drove to Sydney and back a couple of weeks ago which was the perfect time to listen to this ALONE.

18 squares in and we are halfway through the blanket! I know we’re more than halfway through the year but I’m only about a book and a half behind schedule now, so I’m feeling ok.

Book blanket 2025 #18: The Paradise Heights Craft Store Stitch-Up by Kate Solly

After Tuesday Evenings I absolutely DEVOURED this one. I think Kate really came into her own with her second novel and I’ll happily read anything else she puts out.

Book blanket 2025 #17: Tuesday Evenings with the Copeton Craft Resistence by Kate Solly

This one took a while to get into but once I did I was hooked (ha). The characters felt very one-dimensional to start with but Kate fleshed them out beautifully as the story progressed.

Book blanket 2025 #16: Shirley Jackson: A Rather Haunted Life by Ruth Franklin

I know this is a very highly regarded book, but I struggled to get through it - it took me a month to finish. This book is partly why I’m so behind on posting blanket squares.

Onwards and upwards.

Book blanket 2025 #15: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

After One of Us Knows, this felt like the right move, and of course I was right. In my opinion Shirley Jackson is the Queen of American Gothic, and I’m not pretending that’s a controversial take.

Book blanket 2025 #14: One of Us Knows by Alyssa Cole @alyssacolelit.bsky.social

There’s a lot of depictions of DID out there, but this was the first one that I’ve experienced that really made me understand what it’s like to have multiple alters in your head. And also a murder mystery? I’m there.

Book blanket 2025 #13: Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes

I am way, way behind in posting these. I’ve finished a whole additional row and then some since I last posted. Anyway I love Shonda Rhimes and I loved Year of Yes.

Book blanket 2025 #12: Opinions: A Decade of Arguments, Criticism and Minding Other People's Business by Roxane Gay @roxanegay.bsky.social

As always Roxane’s writing is wonderful, although the first three sections were (unsurprisingly) really heavy and took me a while to get through.

Book blanket 2025 #11: Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins

I remember reading the Hunger Games as a teen and wanting to read Haymitch’s story, and now I finally can.

Suzanne did an amazing job at writing such an engaging story even though we all knew what the conclusion would be.

Book blanket 2025 #10: The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon

After Lessons in Chemistry I was feeling more historical fiction and this really hit the spot. I hadn’t read any of Ariel’s books before but I will definitely have to read a few more now! Her approach to storytelling is wonderful.

BEST LINE: ANXIOUS PEOPLE Once I pushed the swing too hard and sent my preschooler child flying. Pretty sure everyone in Manhattan saw it. #booksky πŸ’™πŸ“š

Book blanket 2025 #9: Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

It took me a little while to understand the hype around this book, but by the time I finished the book I was entirely on board. I especially love the non-linear way the story comes together, and scenes repeat while taking on new meaning.

Book blanket 2025 #8: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir @andyweirauthor1.bsky.social

I know it’s early in the year, but this might be one of my favourite reads for 2025. Whyyyyyy did I take so long to get around to this book. And there’s going to be a movie soon? With Ryan Gosling? Be still my heart.

Book blanket 2025 #7: Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez

This was the perfect palate cleanser after a few very heavy books in a row. Although, Derek and (redhead) Ally Montgomery? Did this book start life as a Grey’s Anatomy fanfic? Because let’s be real, I approve.
