I a little concerned your reply only refs to climate! & saying that the biosphere has 'survived much worse' - even with my laymans knowledge, I am fairly sure that that is not quite the case (if we include Rockström for eg)

Figure out which milkweed is native to your area, and get some in the groud this spring. Water it, it'll be fine!
