I think it's also an oldschool view about "looking strong" and that the other guy wants to make you look weak to get themselves over so you need to protect your gimmick. However, in AEW, you get over having good matches. Losing a great match can propel your career further than a "strong" win there.

I will admit some of my attitude is shaped by MVP a few days after those comments coming out that he thinks intergender wrestling is unrealistic and he had an MMA girlfriend who agreed with him so he can't be sexist! I do think his attitude on "realism" influences his attitude to Bobby Lashley.

I do think there's some value to big guys protecting their size but I also think it's somewhat of an outdated view and how dull a lot of Brock matches have gotten when he is in "You aren't doing that to me." mode speaks to the changing business. Yeah, protect Bobby but also let him actually work.

How MVP described it IMO made sense but also I don't think applied to AEW. He said that Bobby is too easy to talk into things so he puts his foot down and says "Would you do that move to Brock Lesnar? No? Then don't do it to Bobby." but in AEW, most of the shit they absolutely would do to Brock.

That Vince bit was on my mind seeing everyone (correctly) talk about how cool and charismatic El Clon is and you can't see his face in this gimmick but actual wrestlers get that you are telling the story and conveying character with your whole body and the actual match.

WWE doesn't think "moves" count as part of someone's personality & storytelling. I know Vince really isn't a fan of masked wrestlers cause he thinks the face is the most important way for a wrestler to connect with an audience. Meanwhile, wrestlers with masks that fully cover their face are beloved.

The ticket price for WWE rising more and more definitely feels like it has to have contributed to that. I bet they thought they were safe debuting him in Chicago because it's a "smark town" but they must have priced all the more general wrestling, who'd have known who he was, out.

Note: I remembered that John Davidson personally prefers his Coprolalia to be referred to as a condition rather than a disability but I think the broader point still stands.

Disability Rights isn't a "White" thing. The idea that you have to side with either black people or disabled people (and let the institutions like the BBC and BAFTA off the hook) in this story is disgusting IMO. Fuck the ableism, fuck the racism, fuck the BBC and fuck BAFTA.

I went to reddit to see the reaction and someone pitched he should have debuted alongside Punk and been his weirdo sidekick in kayfabe too and someone replied "Punk is willing to get his mate a job, he's not willing to sink his character by tying himself to him" and I just thought Ouch.

You either had to slowly build him & not make him a reveal that would be a letdown for people who don't know who he is or I think you have to have him debut like this in NXT where their crowd has a lot of AEW-obsessed fans who want to hype up people jumping to WWE, even if they're Brian Pillman Jr.

A big issue is WWE obviously expected more of the crowd to know who he was because Chicago is considered a smark town but I think with the price of tickets rising and AEW existing for "hardcore" fans to go to instead, the main roster crowds just don't know & don't care about non-WWE wrestling.
