as an aside, I remember reading hannah arendt's writing on the banality of evil, where she states to the effect that the source of eichmann's evil was his 'thoughtlessness.' which is ironic, bc she also repeatedly wrote that british colonialism wasn't intentionally evil bc it was also 'thoughtless'

i often think about this as well, and i think it's because there are some people who literally do not think. Thoughtless—as in, 'not having thoughts.' Being thoughtless means you don't have to think about other people, how they think, etc. You become the main character in a world of side characters.
