Corona de Tucson residents monitor air quality ahead of new mining operations A group of community members in Corona de Tucson is teaming up with the University of Arizona to track air quality in anticipation of a major mining operation set to begin nearby.

June was a busy month for us! We hosted 18 TUSD students in our summer Steps2STEM program. They worked at a lab for a month and shared their research in our annual showcase. Thanks to all our partners that made this summer possible! #EHSCC

This Sat we co-hosted an activity for our OLEH program with Dr. Michael Kotutwa Johnson's team. The students went to the Hopi ag research plot where our student interns led an EH activity. Dr. Johnson's team then led various hands-on activities, including planting beans 🌱

This week we were happy to install air monitors at the houses of Cathy, Julez, and Christi in Vail. They're going to collect baseline air quality data in case a proposed mine starts operating. What a week! We were thrilled to see everyone that came out to the 2025 Tribal Environmental Health Forum in Maricopa. We're so grateful to all the speakers, presenters, panelists, and trainers that made the event as interesting as it was.

Tina Fingesi, a T32 graduate student, volunteered to present a lecture on PFAS a couple of weeks ago, and last week our Assistant Director, Sofia Forier-Montes, taught a very meta lecture on the basics of presentations! We hope to explore more ways to collaborate with Ms. Lopez in the future!

We are very grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Ms. Cynthia Lopez of Desert View High School! She has spent the semester teaching her chemistry students about TCE's and wanted to round it out with some information on PFAS.
