Hey @tkingfisher.com, thought you might enjoy the fruit of an illustration challenge centered around your Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking. I believe the illustrators are mostly students or amateurs hoping to develop their skills, and the challenge was to focus on one character. From Facebook.

So this video is perfect and you should watch all of it but if you truly do not care about Christmas lights please skip to here (22 minutes in) for commentary on lighting in the LED age that pretty much every sighted person would benefit from consuming.

A comic of three frames. Top, what looks like the black shape of a two headed monster dog with three sheep in foreground looking scared. Then a panel showing two friendly guard dogs with their collars entangled and the words low-rent Cerberus. Up close of collarsβ€”then a large bottom view of the sheep fleeing and dogs following with Q marks over their heads. Two farmer shapes in fire saying β€˜farming is stupid’ and β€˜collars are stupid’

Plaque naming me Milwaukee Irish Fest’s Volunteer of the Year for 2025.

So this happened last night. I had no idea it was coming.

(For those not from Milwaukee, our li’l fest requires somewhere around 4000 volunteers to run. For the past 30 years, I’ve been one of those volunteers in a variety of capacities from shift volunteer to stage manager to coordinator.)

It's wild in a way that I can think of two movies offhand that cracked the code on this: The Matrix and Everything Everywhere All At Once.

And the code is this: you can get audiences to accept profound concepts with a judicious application of wire-fu.

Crop of the previous photo showing the possum's big brown right eye in detail. The photographer's reflection is clearly visible in the possum's pupil, including a bright light for the flash diffuser (low power and diffused to avoid distressing nocturnal animals), black circle of the camera lens, plus the photographer's arms and body.
