I think what’s most fucked for young people right now is that no one in power cares what happens to them. There’s a real callous disregard for the fact that young people can’t find jobs, or have little hope of starting families or buying homes. There’s even a sense that they deserve it.

This is not a massive decision or any kind of change. Costco has never carried mifepristone in its pharmacies. An anti-abortion group is taking credit for something that didn't happen, possibly to generate disingenuous left-wing ire against one of the few corporations that hasn't gone MAGA.

This is a very writing studies-centered skeet, but… the way that some in the field are tying themselves into knots to advocate for some “ethical uses” of GenAI really emphasizes the field’s shallow investment in anything like “justice” or “decolonization” or “abolition.”

letting Ai write your 'boring emails' for you...Please. I am asking for some high stakes stuff here in this email: I am not about to put it into the hands of a generic, ethos-less voice.

If I have to explain to you why it's a bad idea to use a machine that makes shit up 15-80% of the time AND destroys the environment AND contributes to rising fascism and genocide AND puts brilliant skillful creatives out of work by stealing their work, then we're already speaking different languages

Generative AI by definition is conformity. It is an averaging of anything you ask of it - quite literally guessing what the most likely version of a thing might be. It is, by definition, mainstream, as is everything it creates old and deeply ideological, as every model trains on similar data.

Reminder that we can all just choose not to use generative AI. We don't actually have to adopt new technologies just because they're new technologies.

Just a reminder that there is no psychotherapist-patient privilege with ChatGPT.

I do firmly believe that refusing to outsource your basic cognitive functions to LLMs right now - as so many are stumbling over themselves to do right now, like hogs trotting to a pile of slop that’s been set up inside of a butcher’s delivery truck - will very much pay off in a few years.

I wish more disabled and/or neurodivergent people (not to mention the ableds) would understand that the explicit openly stated goal of tech companies re gAI is to replace every public/social service from healthcare to education and more with their tech.
And they’re using us to build consensus.

Google's AI summaries are
- killing traffic to legitimate sites
- producing summaries that can be wrong
- in the long run probably making you a dumbass
