Its not perfect, but Secret Agent is heck of a movie that should be mandatory viewing to all your friends&family that for one reason or another(reason is social media btw) are now disillusioned with democracy. Recent Brazilian cinema giving a masterclass on perils of flirting with authoritarianism

Its telling of how mediocre of a politician JD is that while in private he is far more pragmatic, publicly he is always the flag bearer for the least popular MAGA policies on both sides. under any normal 28 scenario he gets eaten alive on the ads alone

Bugs me to no end Trump is the only one who understands(and overplays, for his & Cronies benefits) the power of these institutions. You need to ensure egregious hostility will be punished and that that message is known. Go full Cersei on them and half of these problems will go away

Small step in the right direction. Institutions need to start being openly hostile towards techbros AND anyone associated with them. It doesnt make any sense to not take gloves off when they themselves are openly going around stating their goal is to dismantle said institutions

I think i have been relatively "bearish" on many of AI claims as promotional. I'm beginning to change my mind and if you havent I would urge you to please spend a couple of weekends playing around with Claude Code. Get some creative cases for it, pay the 200 bucks if possible. Something has changed.

I wish I was not becoming a full maxi, but the bull case for AI is a massively bearish case for the stock market, which has been lagging on some "obvious" things on a 6-12 months basis pretty consistently for past year or two

I get that as market participants you need to have views, that for many reasons tend to be long etc etc. But banging my head against the wall at full maxis thinking AI about to displace 10-20% of workers then going "anyway, biggest long is this Greek shitCo, easy comps, trades at cheap mult"

I may have to go navigate a bit outside of my bubble on this website to open up my mind. I lack seeing these people out there. I doubt I will come out like Andy Dufresne tho

Saying this as someone who has uninformed and shitty takes I put out there unrequested: everyone being entitled to an opinion and putting it out there w/o consequences is a problem
Also, jfc, do some on the more left side of things really just dont get it that they are profoundly annoying?

I dont know enough about Macron or French politics to judge him on most of his actions, internal or external, and from gut feel i dont tend to like him, but my man seems to be one of the few that have had the eye on the ball for the past year

Like, above all else, I cant imagine any foreign leaders, particularly of allied nations, think of the US admin as anything other than being extremely annoying and petulant? Constant needing and needling and a state of wanting to have your cake and eat it too via attempted bullying

You, a Western bureaucrat, hide an excel cell with 16k people and your world falls apart. Me, a CCP official, add an entire NYC to my admin area with stroke of a pen and am lauded for my performance. We are not the same.

Always saw whole discourse around Chongqing being framed as populations inflows + whatever(post Xi "whatever" likely stopped including Bo Xilai's Chongqing model). Anyhow, TIL learned pop growth stats seem meh vs headline figures that include '97 reclassification

I think ignoring this fact for fear of being perceived as sexist is susceptible to letting other side frame the conversation as reverting this to be the solution to current low-birth rate problem/marriage rates

Bugs me few point out one of the primary drivers of these, which is fact women stopped needing men to "provide" for them as they were allowed to join workforce. There is a reason trad-wife is popular among conservative/sexist-leaning circles.

If you are good, you can weaponise any issue whenever and however. Russia seems to have be one that realized this in 16. PLUS, so hard to empirically prove+banner of free speech make it super sticky. But obvious when you have friends that never cared about politics spewing some BS conspiracy theory

ppl are megabraining numbers etc when media, specifically social media, is only common denom that explains changes we have seen across range of subjects and classes. Its what European migrant crisis, London crime rates, US [insert some right wing political issue point] have in common

Greatest trick internet platforms ever played was convincing societies they're not responsible for contents & equate them to free speech.Sooner governments realize that SM in its current form, and X in particular, are detrimental to societal progress the less painful it will be to fix this

There is going to be some profoundly annoying tone in how older PMs talk about this that is characteristic of boomer entitlement, similar to the superior tone in which older 2007 distressed or 2010-2021 tech guys act and talk about
