ah yeah, sometimes I can get my way around stuff via hex-editing like editing Iggy's arena or changing the Map16 tiles of certain objects like pipes. most stuff is straightforward, but seeing how SMW was sorta rushed, there are many questionable things that you can't deal with that easily...

sure, you could probably avoid using mode 0 and use sprites for the moving layer 2, but that's too complicated, especially for me who only knows the mere basics of ASM if anything. someone named LMPuny gave me the mode 0 code many years back

yes! I was very lucky with what I wanted. the yellow blocks (coin, ?-block, !-block, brick block...) especially turned out pretty decently

I was scrolling thru @hackervilela.sneslab.net's posts and came across this one by @kaptajnen.bsky.social saying that mode 0 is unexploited in homebrews. well, this isn't homebrew but rather an SMW hack. however, you still get to see it in action!
