DHS and ICE were established after 9/11 as the domestic arm of the so-called "war on terror." For 23 years, these federal institutions have enforced racist immigration policy, caged human beings in concentration camps, and ruined thousands of lives at colonial borders. ICE's terror campaign in Minneapolis is not a new phenomenon, it's a continuation of the same violent mission they've had from the start. Immigration enforcement is terrorism. Abolish ICE and DHS everywhere.

Minnesotans experienced police violence long before ICE occupation. After MPD murdered George Floyd, the 2020 Uprising was a groundswell of global resistance to racist policing. We took to the streets to demand abolition. This powerful legacy of resistance informs the political consciousness and organizing networks that enable our fight against ICE today. We have seen what police reform and compromise accomplish: the continuation of the same-old murderous systems that disproportionately steal Black lives, including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Daunte Wright.

ICE AND MPD ARE THE SAME EVIL. NO POLICE, NO PRISONS, NO ICE. Once again, the people must protect each other from an adversarial police force. Once again, we are demonstrating that "we keep us safe" is more than a slogan; it is a political orientation, an affirmation of what we already know: Their end is our beginning. Community safety starts with the abolition of police, prisons, DHS and ICE.

Despite Hennepin County claiming to be a "sanctuary" for immigrant communities, ICE’s terror campaign has relentlessly targeted our undocumented neighbors. DHS and CBP have critically damaged the social and cultural health of Minnesota. The only way forward is together, as equal members of our cities. We are calling for the passage of immediate, sweeping protections for our immigrant neighbors. We demand community safety that does not depend on citizenship.

Everyone in Minnesota deserves a home, the right to work, and access to healthcare. Families need childcare, groceries, rent relief, and reliable access to free public transportation. All children across the state should be at safe, in-person, well-funded schools. Small businesses and community centers need financial assistance to stay open. A better future is possible.

Justice for our immigrant neighbors in Minnesota means Indigenous sovereignty. Our calls for amnesty are rooted a demand for land back. ICE is another form of violent U.S. settler occupation over treaty-protected lands. Amnesty for our neighbors will only be realized from the self-determination and stewardship of Dakota people across Mni Sota Makoce.

'Melt the ICE' Organizers Share Lessons Ahead of Week of Action Against ICE - UNICORN RIOT Organizers with "Melt the ICE" shared some reflections and lessons on ICE resistance tactics in the lead-up to a week of action in Minnesota.

DROP ALL CHARGES AGAINST ICE RESISTERS. WEEK OF ACTION FEBRUARY 25 - MARCH 1.

In addition to targeting and kidnapping thousands of our neighbors, ICE has also detained hundreds of people for resisting their unlawful tactics. While tens of thousands of Minnesotans have stepped up to follow, document, and denounce ICE activity in their neighborhoods, MPD and ICE have ripped protestors from sidewalks and cars. Our neighbors are being hit with criminal charges at the state and federal level.

At least 350 Minnesotans have received a variety of charges, ranging from state charges for noise demonstrators at hotels housing ICE to four federal felony charges for local artist Isavela López, who was brutalized by federal agents following a protest in June 2025. None of these charges are legitimate. They are intended to intimidate. ICE wants us out of the way so they can continue their campaign of terror without resistance. We refuse to let that happen.

A separation ordinance between MPD and DHS does nothing to protect the residents of Minneapolis. When we try to make our city safer, the police only try to stop us. They’ve joined ICE in using excessive force and arresting our neighbors. The majority of charges for ICE resistance have been issued on a federal level by DHS, which carry serious consequences and are difficult for local attorneys to represent. Minnesotans and our legal allies across the country are working tirelessly to defend ICE resisters. We demand all oppressive charges are dropped.

Eviction Moratorium by March 1st. KEEP OUR NEIGHBORS SAFE!

Thousands of vulnerable Minnesotans have been sheltering in their homes all winter for fear of detainment, physical violence and deplorable conditions at federal detention centers. Many have lost their jobs and ability to earn rent during this crisis. Residents across the state are calling on Governor Walz to protect our neighbors and declare an eviction moratorium immediately. Walz has done it before. He declared an eviction moratorium in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, which lasted 16 months before being fully phased out in 2022. We must receive protection during this crisis as well.

Even as neighbors work at to compesate for the government's lack of support, countless Minnesotans are falling through the cracks. We don’t need empty declarations from politicians, we need an immediate moratorium and rent relief to keep our neighbors safe. We demand the city's largest evictors Dominium, Millenium, Level 10, BLVD, IPG, and the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority keep families in their homes.

RELEASE ALL OUR ABDUCTED NEIGHBORS AND CLOSE THE CAMPS! WEEK OF ACTION FEBRUARY 25 THROUGH MARCH 1.

OUR NEIGHBORS ARE STILL MISSING. ICE reports that 4,000 children, parents, business owners, and essential community members have been abducted since the start of Operation Metro Surge. Our neighbors are being held in detention camps across the country, including Camp East Montana in El Paso, Texas, and the McCook Detention Center in Nebraska. They must return home.

The conditions in ICE detention camps are appalling-- reports of starvation, illness, and abuse are widespread. Six deaths have already occurred in ICE detention since January. Immigration lawyers are rarely informed of their clients’ movements. MINNESOTANS ARE BEING DISAPPEARED AND KILLED BY ICE.

The federal government wants mass incarceration and genocide. DHS and their private prison enablers CoreCivic and the GEO Group have already received $55 Billion in Navy contracts to build a network of detention camps across the country. DHS aims to create 23 new facilities capable of holding up to 10,000 people each. This will be the largest increase of detention capacity in US history. WE CANNOT LET ICE TAKE ANOTHER NEIGHBOR.

A LOVE LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF THE TWIN CITIES. FROM THE ORGANIZERS OF THE “MELT THE ICE” WEEK OF ACTION. We write this to you as a loose collective of organizers and neighbors who have been by your side doing rapid response, dispatch shifts, and mutual aid. We are now working hard to convene a Week of Action, February 25 to March 1, that brings together people from near and far to learn, practice, and grow in the skills and commitments that will be required to not just force ICE out of our home, but to abolish ICE altogether.

We see it as our responsibility now to spread the skills, tactics, and revolutionary love that have defined the anti-ICE movement here to people across the country. We must continue to build the movement against ICE, and that means extending a welcoming hand. We also know that there are so many beautiful corners of this movement locally that we have not been able to reach yet, as our personal networks only extend so far.
