Kruel’s backstory is becoming clear, with major connections to DD’s pals and Kingpin. Urich has suspicions about the “New” DD. Kingpin decides he can take over and rule from the street and not in an ivory tower. One of the better covers of the era.

And my criticism of the No Double Life from previous arcs is pretty quickly addressed

It’s not a bad ending but it does make you think, ….okay, Whatever! Elements of Elektra’s past are interesting but not the primary story itself sadly

We learn Tekagi and Elektra had a past while in the hand together, that’s about the biggest piece of the story (beyond ElektrA’s entire team getting wasted immediately)

Elektras team is assembled but no dd, they’re taking on the snake root! The rare TMNT joke is deployed.

Biggest piece of lore here is Peter is not fooled by Matt’s insistence that he’s a brand new Daredevil and not Murdock.

And one more pit stop over to AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #396 and PETER PARKER, THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #219.

Spidey teams up with DD and The Owl teams up with The Vulture, the latter developing a virus that can kill people who remember him as an old man (he’s magically young now, go figure).

A detour over to MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS #150 and #151, as Ann Nocenti returns to redefine Typhoid Mary, giving her two more alternate personalities with their own powers but also a pure man-hating vendetta. DD isn’t really in it, but it rocks!

DAREDEVIL #337

I can appreciate the long game and build up of Kingpin’s return to power but on the whole this story took too much time to really get going and wasn’t all that cohesive in the end. The 90s armor is growing on me though.

What’s becoming clear about the big problem with this era is that a DD without a double life is one doesn’t make for very compelling storylines. The pieces are there too but nothing is really being done with the “Jack Batlin” side to add any depth here.

I do love how DD’s Billy club changes to multiple weapons now, but somehow this story is now drawing in monsters. Almost too much happening now

Bushwacker is revealed to be the one planting bombs around NYC, framing the sewer people that DD has befriended. It’s a little funny how everyone is acting like Black Armor DD is a NEW hero after Matt’s “death.” Makes no sense in context to me

Chichester and McDaniel are off working on the first volume of the Elektra series so Gregory Wright and Tom Grindberg take over and finally dig into the “Kingpin is putting together an army of homeless people.”

Tree of Knowledge is finally over. Who gives a shit!!!!

DD teams up with cap as they FINALLY learn this whole thing was a Hydra plot. Matt already seems to be regretting his Jack Batlin identity.

As poorly written as Tree of Knowledge has become, it does have a prescient view of the internet in the modern era.

Gambit makes a minor cameo, clearly just to sell a cover.

DAREDEVIL ANNUAL #10

DD and Elektra team up with Shang-Chi to face a Hand assassin. Fun!

BW begins to look into Matt’s death with the help of Urich and Fury, with surprise ties to her Russian past.

DAREDEVIL #329

Tree of Knowledge is largely incomprehensible as a storyline by this point but Iron fist shows up so whatever!

DAREDEVIL #328

An “interlude” issue (no Chichester, no McDaniel) where Wirehead, a hacking villain with weird video game powers, takes over the ESB. Proof that the armor isn’t that bad when drawn well!

DAREDEVIL #327

Matt settled into his new identity, “Jack Batlin” (get it?) and finds himself at odds with The Avengers. I should hate the armor suit, but I don’t, even if McDaniel’s art is sometimes wonky.

DAREDEVIL #326

New arc, new logo, new DD as “Matt Murdock” is laid to rest and the hero begins a new life (he hides in an ATM to beat up from scammers). It’s a great post script to Fall From Grace but I fear the story being set up won’t be as engaging (Hydra enlisting internet themed villains)

DAREDEVIL #325. Finale of Fall From Grace.

I was prepared for this to suck ass, a haphazard follow up to Millers work, but honestly? It works. It’s fun. And it pushes DD into wild new places.

Matt Murdock is “dead” and DD lives.

Everything is coming to a head, but why did Morbius need to be in this one?

Venom gets fully involved, giving this one some wild paneling. Matt’s Billy clubs get a major upgrade in how they can transform, but more importantly, Ben Urich’s shelved story about Matt (from DD #164) is stolen by Sara and sold to a tabloid.

The maximalist tendencies of this crossover are VERY 90s with how many threads there are but it’s so far much better than I thought it would be.

The Black Armor makes its debut. DG is clearly channeling every element of Miller he can but the one thing he’s missing is civilian life. Lots of plots being juggled so still time to pivot back.

DAREDEVIL #320. So far FALL FROM GRACE has everything. The Hand, The Chaste, the tease of ElektrA’s return, and the setup of DD’s Black Armor suit.

DAREDEVIL #319 Fall from Grace prologue sets up a weird one, with lingering Kingpin threads coming back but also Silver Sable, the Daredevil doppelgänger, and even John Garrett from Elektra Assassin.

DAREDEVIL: THE MAN WITHOUT FEAR #5

Great ending. Matt kills another guy.
