My new blog post covers my takeaways from the book "Die With Zero" by Bill Perkins. It's a provocative look at personal finance that argues for creating "memory dividends" instead of just saving. If you're into lifestyle design and personal finance, this book is a must-read. andyjreyes.com/dwz

Ludonarrative Brilliance in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time PoP: The Sands of Time features great ludonarrative design. What happens when its narrator-hero 'dies'? A subtle detail elevates its first-person storytelling.

If you're into game design or how stories are told in games, I just wrote about one of my favorite little details in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and how it uniquely blends its gameplay with its first-person narration. Let me know what you think! andyjreyes.com/pop-game-over/

Now What Andy Reyes is doing now.

I’ve revamped andyjreyes.com to be my outlet for all my writings, musings, and life stories. I’ll be adding posts most Saturday mornings – like a digital diary!

Topics will range from lifestyle design, β€œAndy lore,” and Japan travel tips to media analysis, coding wisdom, and financial learnings.

Depending on the type of app, I would start with β€œentities” and create models or model controllers around them. Then I would start making the views and view models that display or create those entities. I’m not yet convinced SwiftUI obviates MVVM, but if it does, I can always refactor the code.

Yes! I’m glad to still be learning from you even though we no longer work at the same company. I saw on your blog you gave Claude 3.7 an EE. Don’t you mean SI? πŸ˜‰

I totally get it. My pet peeve is when a property doesn’t specify its default value. This is particularly troublesome with bools and enums.

This image shows my etegami art. Etegami is a painted postcard created with black ink and gansai watercolor. The postcard I painted shows two apples zoomed in so you only see the top parts with their stem. Above the apples is a message written in black ink: "Have A Fruitful New Year" with an emphasis on fruitful to give it a nice pun. The left apple has more watercolor texture and is partially green at the top but mostly red. The right apple is completely red with a tasteful shadow on the lower right. Surrounding the postcard is a sheet of rice paper which I used to mix colors, experiment with different symbols. The chaos of the background rice paper is a fun contrast to the relative simplicity of the final postcard. This shows that art is a creative process and even simple artworks take a lot of forethought and work to create.

Excited to try out Bluesky with everyone! I'll mostly be posting little thoughts, maybe life updates, and posts from my (soon-to-exist) blog.

A bit about me: My motto is Software is Storytelling. I'm an iOS developer in Silicon Valley, and I'm currently getting into learning the art of etegami.
