Drop box FTW. I don’t even trust USPS anymore.

This is key: Trump is saying a private donor's $130 will pay the troops. It's literally $100 per active duty military. Why are people too stupid to do simple math?

I used to buy these paperbacks from the discount rack of a bookstore outside of Beachwood Place. Having the year on the cover makes the price drop quickly but the stories continue to be special. It's been a while since I've read these collections. I'll buy this one new!

I look forward to Mr. Douthat's article about how blowing up fishing boats is bold, decisive action. Then there needs to be an opinion piece on how destroying the economy while looting federal coffers demands respect. Oh, oh, and then something about funding Argentina while soybean farmers go broke.

Yes, and, this headline is on point. For a rag that sanewashes so many stories with weak headlines they are clearly calling this truth out: West Coasters know the power of zoning better than any other laws.

There's a place on Cleveland's east side called "Bialy's Bagels". They used to have a proper name, but that sign disappeared decades ago. People started referring to them by the name on the remaining sign: "Bialys & Bagels" maybe because they forgot what bialys were? Now it's the official name.

I think this record needs to be set straight clearly and often leading up the election. Even r/SeattleBike is still a bit unclear if he should get credit for it or not.

They call these "downdraft" vent hoods in the US. I don't find them particularly effective, but with induction, you don't really need to vent as effectively because there are no unburned hydrocarbons to worry about (just the burnt hydrocarbons from your food....)

More than a decade ago Rob Ford, then the crack-cocaine-smoking mayor of Toronto, popularised the phrase "the war on cars", promising to cut funding for light rail and to move bike lanes.

On a side note, I carry a folding helmet when I go to NYC. (I don't know the streets & local traffic patterns so I'm inclined to want more protection than if I lived there.) This brand was banned by the CPSC but does meet European CE standards. I'll trust Europe here :)

The more bikes that are on the streets the safer I am, with or without a helmet. "Encouraging people to bike" full stop makes us all safer.

Side note: I don't think anyone is anti-helmet. I am opposed to the "helmet absolutists" who act as if helmets are the only safety measure that matter.

Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

β€œLook, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.β€œ

It depends on what leverage Trump has against committee members. No one does anything because they respect him. It’s only because they are forced.

Ms. Halligan, who took over on Monday after her predecessor quit rather than prosecute James B. Comey with what he believed was insufficient evidence, had a little trouble with the first two tasks. At one point, she entered the wrong courtroom. When she found the right one, she stood on the wrong side of the judge, then appeared confused about the paperwork she just had signed.
