Glad to see there is at least one politician seriously engaging with the absolute catastrophe currently taking place in UK Universities. Inflation linked fee increases will do nothing to abate a crisis that has taken thousands of jobs already. The horse has already bolted, where is the government?

9,600 redundancies at just 24 universities. Imagine what the picture is for the sector as a whole. This is the other half of the student loan scandal picture, which has been national news lately. Nothing at all from the government on a key sector effectively in freefall…

A reminder, one day ahead of a by-election in which the Greens are favourites to defeat Reform, that the Daily Mail owner's wife recently donated Β£50,000 to Nigel Farage's party

The thread below totally debunked this 'story' over the weekend. This is the Mail today.

You can read below that they were there for days without incident or trouble, but look at the images the Mail opted to use...

Thanks for this thread - really interesting. Are the LLM-critical academics more likely to be from humanities/arts/social sciences disciplines, and the LLM-adopters more likely to be in STEM disciplines, I wonder?

I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.

Once again #r4today is discussing trans rights (which are clearly being curtailed here) without including trans people, or even someone sympathetic to trans people

If you were trying to come up with more harmful guidance towards trans and non-binary young people you would be hard pressed to find it. The fact it is backed by Cass shows how wrong it is.
We are already seeing an increase in suicide rates among trans young people.

Farage's claims here are straightforward lies (and it's about time the media/press said so)

The correct figures are 160K (0.3%) and 900K (1.5%)

The Home Office tweet here - referring to asylum seekers legally here and legally supported by the government as β€œillegal migrants” - is a deliberate attempt to stir up resentment and racial hatred.
