A landmark scientific workshop has identified 124 Important Shark and Ray Areas (ISRAs) across the European Atlantic, providing the first comprehensive map of critical habitats for threatened species such as Basking Shark, Tope, Spiny Dogfish, Sicklefin Devil Ray, and Angelshark.

Abstract submissions are now open for Sharks International 2026, taking place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 4-8 May 2026.

The FSBI Medal Winners session starts with a talk from Colin Adams. Colin, previous President of the FSBI, has been awarded this year's Beverton Medal. Given the FSBI's focus on supporting ECRs, Colin draws on his wealth of experience, with a talk titled "Surviving a career in research" #FSBI2025

This year's FSBI medal is awarded to @mjjuanjorda.bsky.social. Maria talks to us today about what tuna have taught her throughout her career. Some very useful lessons learned and advice for the ECRs in the audience! #FSBI2025

Our final medal award winner is Oliver Crimmen, of the Nautral History Museum (London), who was awarded this year's Le Cren Medal. With over 50 years of experience, some species are now present in the collection but extinct in the wild, which gives much pause for thought #FSBI2025
