Solution: "gifted" programs that have *fewer* resources than other classes. I didn't need anything other than to cover more material faster.

There's no perfect way to teach every kid at their own pace but I bristle at the idea that I shouldn't be allowed to learn more advanced stuff in subjects that I was good at. As well as more remedial help with the subjects I struggled with.

I also wonder if he's confusing how one should operate on a personal level with how politics works. Like, I really do believe that no person is irredeemable, and compassion and understanding are some of the highest virtues. But that cannot be a political strategy.

It feels like a just-world fallacy kind of impulse. He doesn't want to believe that so much of the country is past the line, because isn't that an awful world to live in? Isn't it more comforting, more interesting, and more workable to believe that we can all find common ground?
